I came SO CLOSE on the Guardian quiptic this week. There were only 2 clues I didn’t get on my own.
If I’d thought about it a bit more I could perhaps have got
Small rivers making squeaking sounds (6) CREEKS
but I had no chance with
Developed so-called shudder in Scotland (4) GREW
because I didn’t know that the Scots have a word GRUE which means shudder. Still, I learned something and I’m getting better! And homophone clues are obviously my weakness.
I also managed half of a regular Telegraph cryptic the other day, go me. Still can’t ever do much of the regular Guardian one though(!)This is not a skill that is coming easily to me! 3 months ago

Well, I’ve had a couple of good weeks with the Guardian Quiptic, only needed to cheat on a few clues, that’s a good result for me. I didn’t manage much of the Radio Times crossword this week though, and the Guardian ‘regular’ cryptic is still quite hard… 7 months ago

Last time I went to Spain, I couldn’t decide whether churros were the best culinary thing, or the funky Iberian ham and cheese thingummies that turned up several times in tapas :)
Radio times cryptic was hard this week. I only got about a third of the answers before I had to look a couple of things up. 8 months ago

Have now cast on the front piece and knit the rib section. Huzzah. Gonna take a while to finish the whole of the front and the sleeves tho! 8 months ago

Well, it has gone to the publisher- yay.
Now to wait and see if they accept it, and with how many corrections… so I’m not celebrating yet(!) 8 months ago

The back piece is done. This goal is progressing slowly due to not having much time! After finishing the back though, casting on another 80 sts to make a similar piece for the front requires motivation :D 8 months ago

I managed about half of the Guardian/Observer Everyman crossword this week before having to look a couple of things up. I had to cheat on “Great beat, for example (3,5)” because I didn’t realise that ‘great beat’ is an example of an EYE RHYME- I didn’t know that expression. I also didn’t get “Churchill, perhaps, managed to achieve record height (8)” because I was thinking of Winston rather than his father RANDOLPH (pretty poor general knowledge on my part, there).
Maybe one day I’ll be able to do all of the Everyman and ‘graduate’ to the regular guardian cryptic- I usually can only get a few clues per grid on their usual crosswords. I’m so rubbish! :) At least attempting crosswords is improving my vocab and general knowledge…! 8 months ago

Yep- it’s like a drug, isn’t it. The person who invents fat-free chocolate will be a billionaire.

I love the Scottish Islands :) Harris is maybe my favourite of the outer Hebrides… just ‘cos of the mountains and the scenery! It’s nice that Gaelic is undergoing a bit of a resurgence… 8 months ago
Ah, a Tolkien fan then? I like that verse :)
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
Apparently I now look like a fat pig and I’m an embarrassment. So… 4 kilos to go in order to meet this target, time to be really hungry for the next couple of months, yay :s
I should probably be aiming for 53 kg really… but 55 feels more within reach, try for that first. 8 months ago
