amy_mhmmGym

Wow, after reading my past entries for this goal, I can definitely say I am more active now! I joined the gym in September and also joined the University Basketball team. I’m not very good at basketball haha but my energy levels are higher and I’ve started to actually enjoy exercise!

However, I feel this goal isn’t complete yet. It is after all the new year, and this morning I went to the gym for the first time in over a month and I can feel the effects of Christmas, new year and my 21st birthday unhealthiness!

So now, I’m currently incorporating the gym into my revision timetable (I have 2nd year exams this month). So I’m going to the gym at 8am (give or take half an hour) every other morning until at least Sunday 22nd January. After that, basketball starts again :) so I should have my fitness levels back up by then! After that, I’ll decide if this goal is complete yet… 16 months ago

amy_mhmmTraining begins!

I’ve just been invited to start training to volunteer for the Samaritans after being successful in the selection event! Training starts 5th February and lasts the month. If they still think I’m suitable at the end of it, I start volunteering for them for at least 4 hours every fortnight, with 5 hours (I think) night shifts every 6 weeks. Sounds like hard work but it will be so worth it! :)

Also, I’ve started training for St John Ambulance. Completed the induction weekend and now waiting to find out when the course begins.

This goal is almost complete… I just need to finish training and get on duty! Exciting! 16 months ago

amy_mhmmWent for a run...

...nearly died.

No, it wasn’t that bad… but I was shocked at how ridiculously difficult I found it. I think I have the stamina of a Sloth. Will try harder on Saturday. 22 months ago

amy_mhmmTaking Action!

Today I booked a consultation at SkinGenesis clinic in Leeds for free advice, skin health analysis and hopefully to arrange the right acne treatment programme for me.
It’s not going to come cheap but after 12 years of buying every skincare item in Boots, as well as the weird and not-so-wonderful from Holland & Barrett, hoping to find that ‘miracle cure’, I’m sure I’ve already spent at least a couple grand only to have wasted my time, effort and money and have my hopes lifted and shattered. If a few hundred pound can ensure that my skin is significantly improved and then easily maintained, it will be money well spent.
The treatment at SkinGenesis is a combination of skin peels and microdermabrasion, as well as home-care products and advice over a period of around 10 weeks.
They don’t claim that they offer a miracle acne cure, only that the treatment should significantly reduce acne and improve the skin’s condition. Despite that, after looking at before and after pictures of people with worse acne than mine, I’m already excited to see my own results after just a few treatments… and I don’t even have my consultation until Wednesday!
From now on, expect an entry here every week and I’ll get some of my own before and after photos up too :) 22 months ago

amy_mhmmResults are in!

I got 3 of them :D 74, 82, 74
Finished the year irritatingly close to a first overall. 2 marks away. One of my modules let me down. (59 and 63 last semester.) It’s an all exam one… blerg. So I know for next year to keep doing whatever I’m doing in my assignments because it’s working! And also to actually revise / LEARN for my exams. Might help steer those grades up from the 60 mark area.
Well, I am happy! Roll on second year!
Oooh, also my first year counts for 10% of the degree, so that’s 7.2% of it under my belt now! 22 months ago

amy_mhmmTempting...

If this gets more cheers than my doctorate goal, maybe I should just do this haha.

This was my original thought:
Pretty much all the life plans I’m making are based on me getting onto the doctorate course for clinical psychology. I wouldn’t have to pay for it, I’d get paid around 20k a year for the 3 years it takes and when I’m qualified it’s fairly certain I’d fall into a job from it. Debts = Paid. Career = Set.
Here’s the catch: only 7 students from my uni are accepted onto it each year. Hmm.
So If I don’t make the cut, I’m predicting I’d be pretty down about that and at a loss of what to do next.
Thought about doing a masters in something… but don’t know what, and it would be expensive. I have some money saved for back up but meh, we’ll see. I might feel like it was the failure route, for me anyway.
So leaving the country and starting a new life feeding elephants (and cleaning up their poop) sounds like a pretty good Plan B. Because elephants are awesome. Did you know they have a greater cerebral potential for cognitive functioning than humans? Yep. Awesome. 2 years ago

amy_mhmmerm...

I played tennis for an hour in the Easter holidays. I knew I was unfit but my word, after 15 minutes I realised how unfit!
By the end of playing, I felt a lot better though, so this needs to be done more often.
Next 4 weeks are full of writing assignments and revising for exams… but after that, I’m free and I don’t plan on spending summer sitting around. Will try to arrange tennis once a week, go walking / jogging / swimming / all 3… jog to pool, swim, walk home maybe? No, probably not. Also planning on buying some weights. Nothing crazy – I have no intention of looking like one of those musclewomen. Just some nice pink 2kg ones.
Just a note – this isn’t to lose weight or change my appearance, it’s so I can walk to the 7th floor of the library without getting out of breath and open doors without struggling! Although more definition to my arms would be a nice bonus :)
Kind of a side-goal / deadline: Get fit in summer so I can try out for tennis or basketball or both at uni in September without embarrassing myself! 2 years ago

amy_mhmmI could have said 'red meat'...

...but ‘mammals’ seems to make it sound like a worthier cause.
Tried to do this over the Easter holidays, but going home and getting fed whatever was there made it impossible. 4 weeks left in my uni house. No reason to buy it. Let’s do this. 2 years ago
