besidequietwatersThank You Aloha

I feel a little giddy to think my breakthrough finally happened…:) 9 months ago

besidequietwatersSurprised Myself

Today I was hoping to complete W6D3 by jogging 22 minutes. But as 20 and then 22 minutes got closer, it felt like I’d finally gotten into a running groove, relaxed and able to keep going. So I decided to try and make it 2 miles.

I kept jogging and still felt decent. Then I started thinking just maybe I can make 5K. I did NOT stop, but continued 2 1/2 miles then 3 miles. To my surprise I not only made it 3.1 miles, but could have kept going!

This is the running breakthrough I’ve been waiting for. Today is my first time EVER to run 5K without taking any walking breaks!

I’m still feeling a little shocked that I actually pulled that off…:D9 months ago

Today’s Mileage: 2.6 miles…:) 9 months ago

besidequietwatersJogged Twenty Minutes

My last few workouts have included three increments of 9 minutes jogging for a total of 27 minutes. Today I jogged that 27 minutes, but my workout was a warm-up walk, 20 minutes jogging, 2 minutes walking, 7 minutes jogging, followed by cool-down walking. It feels really good to have finally done W5D3. Next will be W6D3 with 22 straight-minutes of jogging. 9 months ago

besidequietwatersI'm Confident

that very soon my long-anticipated breakthrough is going to just happen. I expect August will be a successful month for us both. Best of luck as you run that fifteen miles per week! 9 months ago

besidequietwatersWhen My Insomnia

was at its worst, I was prescribed Lorazepam specifically for the insomnia. You have to be careful because this medication can be addictive if taken regularly. But for the occasional severe bout of insomnia, it works like a dream. 9 months ago

besidequietwatersBootcamp Summary

Olympic Puppy Training: Taz did well this month. He’s 13-weeks-old now, socializes nicely with people and animals, sleeps all night in his crate, comes when called, sits, shakes hands, etc. (I won’t mention the bad things he did!) Taz deserves a medal for cuteness!

Couch-to-5K® Training: I didn’t have the breakthrough I was hoping for, but did make some progress by running every other day in July (even when it hurt!) which gives me momentum going into August. No medal for me, but perhaps a participation t-shirt is in order…;) 9 months ago

besidequietwatersDaily Strength Affirmations

I’ve repeated Strength Affirmations daily since mid-March 2012. I say them to myself for encouragement during running workouts that often seem beyond my capabilities.

The affirmations are in italics. They help me believe I’m stronger than I think, and are based on scripture so that when I say them I’m agreeing with God’s word.

I am strong: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” ~ Philippians 4:13

God has given me power: “God has given me a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

He gives me more power when I need it: Sometimes this is a prayer for strength more than an affirmation, but it can be both. “God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” ~ Isaiah 40:29

His power is at work within me: “His incomparably great power which raised Christ from the grave is also working in me.” ~ Ephesians 1:19-20

That means I can do this: And so I keep putting one foot in front of the other trusting the strength I need will come…:) 9 months ago

besidequietwatersSource of My Strength

“God…gives power and strength to his people.” ~ Psalm 68:35

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41:10

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” ~ Isaiah 40:31 4 years ago

My favorite treat sold by the swimming pool I frequented as a child was a frozen Snickers bar. Still a fav after all these years! 9 months ago

besidequietwatersClosing the Gaps

I’m ready to transition from jogging with gaps of walking to running, so today I reduced my walking breaks from 3 minutes to 2 minutes each. The workout was a warm-up walk, then 9 minutes jogging, 2 minutes walking, 9 minutes jogging, 2 minutes walking, 9 minutes jogging, ending with cool-down walking. 9 months ago
