JoshI setup

...the beehives over the weekend and the bees came Saturday night! I got the three bee packages installed last night, and I only managed to get stung once, on the ankle after I was done and walking away. I think the bee must have got trapped between my pants and shoe and got pinched somehow while I was walking. Over all, it was a very good experience and I really had a good time. I’m excited about this and I’m leaning a LOT.

I’ll probably keep this goal active till the middle or end of the summer once I know the hives are fully established.1 week ago

JoshTo Build A Swing by Hafiz Shirazi

You carry
All the ingredients
To turn your life into a nightmare
Don’t mix them!

You have all the genius
To build a swing in your backyard
For God.
That sounds
Like a hell lot more fun.
Let’s start laughing, drawing blueprints,
Gathering our talented friends.

I will help you
With my divine lyre and drum.
Hafiz will sing a thousand words
You can take into your hands,
Like golden saws,
Silver hammers,
Polished teakwood,
Strong silk rope.

You carry all the ingredients
To turn your existence into joy,
Mix them, mix
Them! 3 weeks ago

JoshI think...

...that I’m going to have to back out of this goal. I’m going to have a lot going on this summer (by choice). Hopefully this will be something that I can fit in during 2015 instead. 3 weeks ago

JoshAll together...

...I made about 4 gallons of maple syrup and collected 120 gallons of sap. I think I started about two weeks too late. But I’m pretty happy with what I have and I learned a lot. I only tapped 9 trees this year, and I hope to tap about 25-30 maple trees next year. 3 weeks ago

JoshI'm Off!

It’s 4am, and I’ve been awake for about a half hour. I have to leave for the airport in 30 minutes. I’m excited about this trip! I spent all day yesterday packing, gathering my scuba equipment and camera gear, cleaning the house (it always feels good coming home to a clean house after a trip), and making the final preparations for people to take care of my pets while I am away. I’ll be in Aruba, assuming the flights are all on time, around 1:30pm EST. I don’t know how often I will have wifi in Aruba and I’m only taking my iPad, so if I’m not around for the next week, that’s why. I promise to take lots of photos (maybe even some underwater photos if I can rent an underwater camera for a decent price) and I’ll write about my adventures when I return!

This last week has been a bit of a whirlwind. I had a pet die a little over a week ago and I’ve been processing maple syrup on a fairly large scale and starting to get my beehives and such setup for the spring. Plus doing normal life stuff and my obligations at the martial arts school that I attend. I meant to write a blog post, and there are many messages and comments that I haven’t had a chance to reply to yet, and I apologize for that. I hope you all have a wonderful week, and I promise to reply once I get back!4 weeks ago

2. – Going for a long walk in the woods.

3. – Collecting more maple sap from my trees.

4. – Getting to play with my niece for a while. She thinks my beard makes me look like a grizzly bear. Rawr! ;-)

5. – The Great Donut Race. ;-) 1 month ago

JoshIt's been my

...experience that if you happen to be visiting someone in the hospital (in their hospital room) when they bring their meals, you can be in there with them while they eat. I knew it was breakfast time when I was visiting my grandfather, so I stopped and got myself some breakfast so I could eat in the room with him.

My grandfather is doing quite a bit better now, though. Thank you! :-) 1 month ago

JoshThe bees...

...will actually arrive by mail. :-) They package them up and send them by regular post, believe it or not. I have enough bees for three hives on there way, three queens and the thousands of worker bees.

I’ve always been fascinated by bees, too. I don’t like getting stung, by any means, but I’m not allergic to bee stings, and I will be wearing protective clothing and have a small smoker to help calm them down when I work with them. I’ll keep you posted on how this goes. :-)1 month ago

JoshThank you!

I hope to see Hawaii two years from now. I’m setting my sights on Spain for next year, but we’ll see what happens. :-) 1 month ago

JoshHaha!

I’m not sure if it would read like an adventure story or not… maybe a cautionary tale, though. lol ;-)

You know, I actually think the small things in life tend to be the more important things. Sure, where you live or where you work or how you invest or partner up with people matters… but it’s the little things that make up your days… and that ends up being how you live your life. There’s a lot more small moments, at least in how we perceive them, in our life than big monumental moments… so why not make those small things in life count? :-) 1 month ago
