Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Maria MejiaNot quite two left feet...

I’ve taking ballet for the last 2.5 months just for fun. It’s been a blast. While I’m far from donning pointe shoes, it’s given me a heightened awareness of what my body can (and can’t do).

Of course, this stretching is part of dance – I have not fulfilled on the yoga end of things but I certainly have on the dance side. I’ve signed up for intermediate ballet. I’m toying with belly dancing. Who knows! One thing is certain – I like dance as a form of exercise. It beats going to the gym and feeling like a hamster on a treadmill. 21 months ago

Maria MejiaOne more thing...

This trend will continue on into the next year. :-) For now, I’m going conclude this goal because a big leap was required in order to me to get to this point. There’s no turning back now. 21 months ago

Maria MejiaSince I'm feeling introspective

Since I’ve moved to Philly, things have really been looking up. This holiday season I’m present to the wonderful people I’ve been meeting, hanging out with, and generally enjoying life. Nothing speaks louder than examples so here are some:

- ballet class
- making homemade presents for others
- supporting the arts
- happy hour
- meet ups
- spending time with me doing things are love (no matter how silly/nerdy) 21 months ago

Maria MejiaSupported multiple charitable orgs

I contributed to 2 causes through friends who were fundraising. I’m organizing my department at work to get Christmas presents to 2 underprivileged kids. Lastly, I’m working my way to making a monthly or quarterly contribution to the charity of my choice. 22 months ago

Maria MejiaAlso actively working on this goal

I read everything…somehow on my commute I manage to read (most week days):

- The Skimm
- 1-2 articles in the Atlantic
- 3-5 articles in the NYTimes
- 1-2 article in the Daily Beast
- Too many to count: Huffington Post

On the weekend, I tackle articles from:

- The Economist
- WSJ
- Longform
- AL
- The Washington Post
- Long Read, etc.

In terms of movies…well that’s kind of my business. I will watch and critique just about anything.

Movies I saw last month (that I can remember): Jiro Dreams of Sushi, Baraka, various episodes of Star Trek: DS9, Gossip Girl, No Impact Man, Lost in Translation, Harry Potter: Deathly Hollows – Part 2, Hunger Games, Capote 2 years ago

Maria MejiaFile under...would like to do

I’m not ready to give up on this goal quite yet…I can do this though I am thinking of defining my goal to learning something new or trying some new activity at least 1x/month. 2 years ago

Maria MejiaA little bit at a time

I’m not posting every day, but I have surpassed my initial goal of getting 365 posted. Follow me at http://phillyfauxtoe.tumblr.com. 2 years ago

Maria MejiaMoving forward

After many months, there’s progress being made. I move into my new apartment at the end of this month. I’m looking forward to starting out again. Older, wiser, and bolder. I’m pleased to say I think my relationship with my soon-to-be-former spouse is entering a new phase, one where at least we can manage conflict civilly. 2 years ago

Maria MejiaI haven't given up!

I haven’t actually given up on being financially fit or paying down my debt. Quite the opposite. Since 43things doesn’t let me “merge” goals, I “gave” up on the goals to bundle them into one area called “Become financially fit & build wealth.”

When I started taking on my finances 5 months ago, I was still working 2 jobs over 60+ hrs/week. I had tried other tactics in the past to deal with my debt and manage my spending. The truth is I got complacent and found myself saddled with credit card debt, little savings, and spending without a budget.

To make a long story short, I have done the following:

- paid off one student loan

- paid off two credit cards

- set up automatically payment on my last remaining credit card

- fully funded the shortage in my escrow account thus lowering my mortgage payment this year (as long as the home is in my name)

- set up automatic savings to my brokerage account & emergency fund

- got a raise and living well below my means 2 years ago

Maria MejiaNew class this semester

Registered for my 4th course in my program. Once I complete this course, I’ll be midway through so to speak. :-) 2 years ago

Maria MejiaUntitled

All that remains are my:

- car note ($8,000)

- credit card ($12,000)

- student loan ($6,500)

Just paid off 2 cards and 1 student loan. 2 years ago

Maria MejiaMade headway into this year

I paid off one of my 2 student loans, and 2 credit cards. I’ve also gotten a big raise at work and with the “extra money” I’ve set up an automatic transfer to a money market account. I continue to fund my retirement accounts and I’m fattening up my emergency fund. :-) 2 years ago

Maria MejiaJust got back from the best vacation ever!

The highlight of my recent trip to CA was Disneyland! It’s hard to pick my favorite ride or my favorite moment but I’ll try. Favorite ride: Haunted Mansion after dark! Favorite moment: tied between being drunk in The Enchanted Tiki Room singing with the birdies and chasing after Pinocchio for a photo opp! :-) 3 years ago

Maria MejiaExplore minimalism.

Donated 16 items from my closet to Goodwill. These items were mostly business attire that I hadn’t worn in over a year. They were in very good shape and I figured someone else could use them. :-D I like an edited wardrobe. 3 years ago
