feistyredheadShiny new job
Just finished my first week in a new job. So far it seems like it is going to be just the right combo of opportunities for learning, making an impact, shining and hanging out with celebrities :-) Hurrah! 15 months ago

but in fact have not read anything since finishing Book 2 – Thigmoo – a couple of weeks ago. Must try harder! 16 months ago
Likely to be a cultural highpoint for the year. Having not gotten around to booking tickets during the whole 3/4 year period that Jerusalem has been running to rave reviews, I ended up queuing for day seats – from 4.30am! I really doubted it could live up to the hype and the effort, but in fact it was amazing. A very poignant story of an outsider and how the world treats him, but also bringing in layers of lost traditions and magic, as well as a good slice of dance music and drugs!
This show reminded me that I really should make more of an effort to go to the theatre or other cultural events, hence this new year’s resolution. It is going to be a busy 2012… 16 months ago
Recommended by a friend who knows my love of all things feline, this is a detective novel where all the key characters, including the inspector, happen to be cats. Some gruesome bits, for a cat lover at least, but an enjoyable novel, made more interesting by footnotes giving background information on cat behaviour, about which the author Akif Pirincci has written at least one dedicated book, Cat Sense.
An good start to this goal! 16 months ago
How I did it: After several attempts, my most successful strategy for exercising 3 times per week was to sign up to run a 10 mile race for charity with a friend. This gave me three impetuses to exercise - a definite training goal I wanted to meet and could see progress towards, helping a good cause, and not wanting to let down the friend I was training with. I selected a training programme I felt I could trust, and after the first couple of weeks, was pleased to see some real improvements in my fitness, which inspired me to continue my training and complete the race.
Having completed the race, I did find that my motivation to train dropped off considerably, so would recommend finding new goals to replace any completed ones. Since then I also started Powerplate, which is a quick and intensive way to exercise, and was a good way of fitting in exercise 3 times per week as part of a busy lifestyle. It’s a bit soppy but one of the best bits of 2011 has been sharing our house with 3 furry, purry friends. They make typing a right pain (currently one handed due to Harry snoozing in the crook of my arm) but they bring a heck of a lot of laughs, and cuteness to the place! 16 months ago
Since I was told an interesting parable by a friend, and then reading further around the subject of productivity, I have been pondering this goal and have decided that my approach to this was all wrong.
I’ve found a link which explains the concept in full detail for anyone who is interested. When I signed up for this goal, somehow I thought there was a way of completing the list of mundane jobs, and then having more time for the important stuff. However, time and advice from others has led me to realise there will always be more mundane tasks, and that the key is to focus on fitting in the important stuff, and the rest will somehow fit in around it, or if it doesn’t, then it probably isn’t worth doing.
For example, I have found that when I focus more on socialising, and inviting friends over, the house gets cleaned as a by-product, and in half the time it would usually take.
I do plan to be a bit more focused in 2012 about setting myself the odd half day of “life admin” time here and there, so the mundane stuff doesn’t completely go out of the window though! 16 months ago
Reviewing this after a long time away from this goal, I realise that somehow, gradually, over time, this seems to have changed within me. A combination of coming to terms with the elements of me that I can’t change, working to improve or emphasize the bits I do like, and gradually developing a personal style that suits me and my lifestyle.
I’m not saying everything is perfect (2012 will definitely be yet another year of trying to fit in more exercise and tone up!) but I reckon I’m ready to mark this goal complete :-) 16 months ago
Returning to 43 Things on New Year’s Eve 2011 as a way of clarifying my plans for 2012, I realise that I completed this one two years ago – oops! Definitely a fun part of my 30th birthday celebration :-) 16 months ago
