Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

ggaarDo I really have to read this reboot.....okay, twist my arm already.

I was not too happy about the huge reboot to the DC universe. Then again, seeing some of the titles and seeing that some of my favorite writers (Paul Dini, Grant Morrison, Gail Simone, and a few others) so…there is that. Not happy with the art design and especially not happy with some of the liberties that they took with really great characters. I am going to give it a shot and pick up the hard cover release of all 52 first issue reboots and see what catches my interest. 3 years ago

ggaarFacebook has evolved...

Into… I am not sure what to say. It has developed into its own thing. The creature it has become just came into being, broke away from it’s masters and has started down its perverse journey into nothing but trouble. It isn’t worth it anymore. Just a matter of time before I get off this train. 3 years ago

ggaarWas a huge success!

We had a great crowd of interested players and friends of ours who have designed games themselves. Had great notes and we are already thinking of improvements. Starting the “beta” run now and hopefully will have something finished for Dreamation 2012! 3 years ago

ggaarTis the 5th of November!

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
‘Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God’s providence he was catch’d,
With a dark lantern and burning match

Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!

Hip hip Hoorah !
Hip hip Hoorah !

A penny loaf to feed ol’Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,’
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we’ll say: ol’Pope is dead.

I wonder if he knew he would be more popular today then the events leading to his demise? 3 years ago

ggaarPromised that I would write three short stories with my students.

In my ELA class, I posed a challenge. To write one short story each trimester and at the end of the year, we would combine them into one “anthology” of work. I also promised to write three as well. My first one is going to be about a teddy bear that is passed on through two or three generations, not sure yet, and how it protects the child who owns him. I am very excited about this story. 3 years ago

ggaarA children's book...

Being inspired by such greats as Shel Silverstein, Maurice Sendak, and even Neil Gaiman. I would love to write something that a child would take something from and stay with them when they become a child at heart. Unless I severely scar them for life and turn them into juvenile delinquents. 3 years ago

ggaarMy first run with report cards.

Being a first year teacher, there are always the first year teacher things. The hardest so far has been the report card talks. We have had two meetings so far on report cards and I am so incredibly hesitant with them. It isn’t as easy as giving a student an A or F, but a really awkward assessment of their skills up to this point in the school year. My school does’t give out grades but rather a set of rubrics. Which is fine for me, it is just the “x” many words I have to write about the student and dealing with the proper language so I don’t antagonize, scare, or anger the parent of said child. 3 years ago

ggaarWar Paint Miniatures' website.

My friend Thom, in paying me for my services in painting and building, has offered to create my website with help from an old friend of mine, who I haven’t seen in so bloody long! The website is www.warpaintminiatures.com, but it is really plain with very little in the way of photos of my work. Hopefully it will be up and running soon. 3 years ago

ggaarCommissions, requests, and my own collections.

Be careful what you wish for, isn’t that what they say? Well I love War Paint Miniatures, I am proud of it. My own little company and my own little venture. I have fallen behind on so many commissions. I have a 14” to 16” Crow statue that I have to finish for someone, two commissions for Bill (Flames of War full US army division and his Amazon Blood Bowl Team), Thom’s list of ever growing miniatures, and the brother’s Warhammer Fantasy miniatures. That doesn’t even count my own armies, singles, and other projects I need to accomplish. I do have my work cut out for me. 3 years ago

ggaarNaNoWriMo 50,000 Word Competition.

Probably one of the best things one can do in November! I have always been impressed with the community of “word warriors” and how they always managed to make me feel comfortable despite being so distracted by life around me, that I never get any work done! In the past five years of my relationship with this competition, I have seriously competed about there times. The first story I wrote was called (tentatively) The Circus of the Moon’s Children. Really tentative, now that I am looking at what I typed it is being revised. The second competition I took part in was a story about a child growing up in a steam powered alternate World War II as a double spy working for the French and the Nazis while living on trains all through conquered Europe. The last one is a tale where a secret society finds a way to traverse time but without being able to return. These society members travel back to alter historical time lines while leaving clues that only the society would be able to see. We shall see what I do this year. I am already behind a day and with some of my students competing with me, I am using the competition as a tool for them to help me and learn more about the writing process. I am really proud of what they have accomplished. 3 years ago

ggaarMetatopia 2011 (The introduction to Lexicon of Dueling).

Well this is it! My first en devour to create a card game with my friend Bill. I came up with the initial design and concept, he created the mechanics and system as well as the art design. I am really nervous and excited all at the same time. Only one small snag. We did get a prime time slot on Saturday with one hitch, technically it’s Sunday morning. A 12am to 4am slot doesn’t seem very prime time to me. I can’t complain because I believe we already have about 5 people signed up and that isn’t counting walk-ins. At least Sunday will be a “normal” 3pm to 7pm slot. We shall see what we shall…well…see. Pictures and such to follow! 3 years ago
