The plan is to get a car in June or July of next year! I don’t want to spend the money on a car, but I need a car to get around the city. There are so many places I can’t reach by bus.

I’ll probably be getting the Honda N-ONE, which I’ve been wanting since 2009 when I first saw it at a motor show here in Japan. :D

Driving Test Attempt #2 Results

Failed again. With a ZERO AGAIN. These guys are incredibly strict.

I did everything perfectly, including stopping at the right point behind the stopping lines, which didn’t doing last time got me an automatic fail. This time I failed because I stayed in the middle of my lane too often. In order to pass, I need to visibly move from the middle of the lane to right next to the painted line on the right or left depending on which way I will turn. This is something good drivers in the US do too, and I do it, but the way I do it apparently isn’t enough.

So, UGH, I have to take the test again. Every time I take the test, not only do I have to pay to take the test, I have to pay for the hour-long bus rides there and back as well as my meals for the day since I have to wait there from morning to afternoon.

Plus spending all day at the driver’s license center isn’t fun.

My next test is in December sometime. I don’t really care right now.

Not only did I fail the test, I failed with zero points. I stopped too close to a stop line, which was an automatic fail. I was surprised, frustrated, and pissed, but there’s nothing I can do about now except not make the same mistake next time.

I have to change my personal challenge deadline from the 15th to the 21st because that was the next time I could sign up to take the test. Whatever.

Tomorrow I wake up early to take a one-hour bus to the Japanese equivalent of the DMV. The driving test is tomorrow. I’m so nervous!!!

I’ve never driven a car outside of the US before, and it’s been over three months since I’ve driven at all. Plus the test is so strict. Everyone keeps telling me no one passes on the first try—it takes AT LEAST two tries. Even though I know this, I’ll probably be disappointed if(/when) I fail tomorrow.

Anyway, no matter what the outcome is, I’m taking the test tomorrow and I’ll do the best I can.

It took all day Wednesday, but I went through step 1 of registering to switch my driver’s license. Next are the written and driving tests, which are happening next Friday. I’m so nervous! There are so many things you have to do in order to pass the driving test, and the testers are strict. I have a map of the course and the route I’ll be driving, so I’m trying to memorize it as best I can so there are no surprises test day.

Tomorrow morning I plan to go to the driver license center to hopefully complete the first part of transferring my US driver’s license to a Japanese one. Part 1 consists of filling out forms and taking the written test. Somehow that takes all day, so I’ll have to return another day to take the driving test, which is the actual hard part. I still have time to prepare, so I’m not stressing… yet. :)
