Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

This is a problem for a lot of people (so I’m told). I wish I could offer some awesome advice, but unfortunately I’m in the same boat as you are! x 3 years ago

Again this all depends on money and whether I want to move into a place with some friends or put a downpayment on a mortgage. Both require quite a bit of money and a stable, secure, full-time job, neither of which I have whilst I’m at university. There is also the very tentative plan to go travelling. I’d rather stay at my parent’s place for a little bit longer if it allowed me to go travelling. 3 years ago

JamesThe USA or Australia

I’d love to live in either of these places, the USA being the place I’d like to go to more. I’d like to do this when I finish my degree. A couple of friends and I have been talking about just picking up and leaving at the end of next year and heading to Australia for a year. Then, if we can afford it, go straight to America! This is probably a pipe dream but I’m keeping faith! 3 years ago

Not going well. 3 years ago

JamesAbsolutely no clue.

It’s starting to get a little bit worrying. All of my friends have firm ideas of what they want to do, a lot of them already in jobs that they enjoy. I have no idea what I want to do at all. And I mean that literally. People say ‘you must have some kind of idea’

JamesEconomics Dissertation

Maybe something about the unemployment rate, or the Greek debt crisis. Then again, a game theory topic might be interesting. Statistics will need to be kept to a bare minimum, if I include any at all (I hate maths and statistics). I’m open to advice from any economists out there, or anyone else for that matter! 3 years ago

JamesNeed my provisional licence and money first,

since lessons are fairly expensive. I wouldn’t be able to afford a car anyway, let alone the insurance, especially since I only work part time while I’m at university. I have nowhere I really need to drive to either. Obviously, it would be a hell of a lot more convenient if I had a car, but the cost far outweighs the necessity at the moment. 3 years ago

JamesI always wanted a distinctive ring that wasn't very common

and I saw a claddagh ring on TV and knew I had to have one. I also wear a celtic knot band ring. For some reason the Irish theme appeals to me. 3 years ago

One day I WILL tackle this beast! 3 years ago

JamesMuay Thai Interclub

I broke my radius a month ago, so I need to wait for that to heal completely before I even start training again, let alone get in the ring with someone. It probably won’t be fully healed until January though, maybe later :(. I’d like to be at the peak of my physical fitness too, so I think I will train for a month before putting my name down. Hopefully I will be able to cross this goal off around the end of Febuary or mid March at the latest, but it all depends on how quickly my arm heals. 3 years ago
