You CAN do it! Many blessings on your journey to a better life – you deserve it! 15 months ago

kmom2468Haven't visited a new state in a long time

:-( Maybe it’s time to change jobs to one where I travel more? Or at least to more places? 15 months ago

kmom2468Congrats!

Many blessings as you become a more educated you! 15 months ago

kmom2468Been reading and listening to pod casts

One of my favorites is Nature’s Harmony Farm’s pod cast. Trying to beef up my virtual library so that when the time comes, I’ll be well armed. Learning as much as I can while I am in a semi-holding pattern here. 15 months ago

Many blessings to you and your family as you travel the crazy road of parenthood! 15 months ago

kmom2468You can do it!

And such a wonderful way to motivate yourself! Go for it! My last one just turned 21, and I am JUST NOW getting rid of my baby fat – and feeling so much better! Don’t wait that long! Slimmer is good, but healthier is better – I can say from experience – it is worth staying healthy so you can enjoy chasing grandchildren around! Many blessings to you and your family through all of life’s ups and downs. 15 months ago

kmom2468What is creativity?

I think that to be creative, one needs to express the unique vision and interpretation of the world that is carried in one’s body, mind and spirit. One might have interesting ideas or stunning visions; however, if one cannot somehow manifest them, they are just dreams and possibilities. I know a mechanic who creates race cars in his mind and then dons welding helmet and gloves to make them a reality. Are they exactly like his dreams? No; but he is working on race car number 3, now, and the vision and the skills to carry out that vision are becoming stronger and more refined.

But what if my vision and interpretation of the world are not all that unique and interesting? What if I am just expressing the same thing that everyone else is expressing? What if I am BORING? Will the manifestations that I create then reflect that?? This is the fear that prompted me to start this goal.

So, here is something from Keri Smith, to kickstart my brain: 100 Ideas

What other things can I do to kick start my creative thoughts, and, just as importantly, turn them into something? 15 months ago

kmom2468How does one become a Woman for All Seasons?

First, I suppose, one needs to define the attributes of a Renaissance Woman. Here’s a list of some ideas …
not in any order
  • She is learned in the human arts:
auditory (music: read, write, play, understand some theory,
    digital music tools, etc.)
visual (photography, drawing, painting, digital rendering, etc.)
tactile (design and build things in wood, metal, earth, etc.)
tastes (cooking, eating, nutrition, complimentary food types,
    nutrition, etc.)
  • She can practice the nurturing arts:
home making (taking care of a home, its appliances, vehicles and
    other items, etc.)
    raising children (large topic, there)
taking care of pets, both mundane and exotic
    nurturing the earth (sustainability, agriculture)
taking care of the body, spirit and mind
  • She is easily at home in both the low tech and the high tech world, being at ease with computers and smart phones and camp fires and calligraphy.
  • She is formally and informally educated in a number of fields – the sciences, the letters, and everything else in between
  • She is aware of the events of the day and of history and how they have come to shape the current state of affairs
  • She is gracious and at ease with both the heads of state and the beggar on the street
  • She understands the connections between the body, mind and spirit
  • While she may choose a particular religious path, she is aware of and versed in the teaching of many religions
  • She is the perennial student, and a teacher when needed; a leader and a follower

And should/does a renaissance woman keep journals and tomes like Leonardo did? And if she does, are her tomes on vellum, printed out from a printer, or only in electronic bits.

These are just a jumble of notes, used to start a conversation, and to stir up inspiration. 15 months ago

kmom2468Thank You!

I have always loved latin music, and while it isn’t sultry and sexy the way I dance it (not yet, anyway!), it is a lot of fun and I am burning calories. Sometimes I feel silly dancing, but, as you say, I just try and let the rhythm take me and enjoy. Thank you so much for your encouragement! 15 months ago

kmom2468Awesome!

Out of cheers, but hope you are enjoying your ride! 15 months ago

kmom2468Cheer! Cheer!

Out of cheers, but this is very cool! 15 months ago

kmom2468Awesome!

Me too! Keep it up! You were my motivation to keep at it today! Thank you!

Many Blessings on the road to a healthier you! 15 months ago

kmom2468Not motivated today

But going to do it any way. Time for action: heading for a quick mile and then an asparagus fritata to start the day. Branching out from salads, because I know if I don’t start changing it up a bit, I’ll get bored and not stick with it. Ugh, ugh, ugh – I need some cheering to keep me going! 15 months ago

kmom246811 lbs - 19 left to go

Doctor went over my blood test results and such and said I could lose up to 5 lbs a week – more than the normally recommended because the obesity is affecting my health so much. So, maintained for a week, and now time for the next 10 lbs! I am learning to samba – I am massacring
the dance, but having fun – and it is quite a workout, so good for my heart. 15 months ago

kmom2468Down to half a pill

Lost 10 lbs; bp looked good during my last doctor’s visit. He said to start using 1/2 pill and see how it goes. My home bp monitor says looking good!

Need to keep exercising and losing weight and keeping the salt out of my food. 15 months ago

kmom2468Brings me peace and hope

I thought about stopping this during the chaos of getting ready to move; however, I have found that it brings me peace and reminds me that there will be late winter days when I will be tending baby tomatoes again – just not this year. Next year, for sure! So, while sporadic, I am continuing to work on this goal from time to time. 15 months ago

kmom2468I'm getting stronger

I can tell that even though I am only doing aerobic exercises right now, I am still getting stronger. I can feel muscles in my arms and core – I was able to carry two flat panel monitors at one time the other day and walk them all the way down the hall at work – with ease. In the past, it would certainly have been a “get the cart” and roll them down the hall event. So much easier to just carry them. Having these strong muscles will help me not be so clumsy and help me live to be over 100. 15 months ago

weight loss under a doctor’s guidance. i’ve done the Atkins diet on my own before, and i’ve tried to cut out fast food and such, but this time I am doing it with blood tests and the whole thing so I can make sure that as the weight comes off, the blood pressure and glucose readings go down and I am not missing any major nutrients. I want this to be the last time that I have to lose 30-40 lbs 15 months ago

Plan an event with the Army for the soldiers and their families & friends. All the work done by volunteers (me and others), so the quality isn’t what I am used to at work (I do some project managing as part of my job). Or, well, the quality is not so bad – but it just takes so much longer to get things done! 15 months ago

kmom2468Apparently I'm a Saturday Kinda Gal

Doing this again while I’m thinking about it on a Saturday, or it might not happen at all…

1. What did I learn last week?
Mind: I need to find a way to fall asleep better
Soul: Leaving work with the sun still up is so invigorating; I am beginning to feel like winter will finally end
Body: I CAN lose weight – 10 lbs in 2 weeks, and still losing!

2. What was my greatest accomplishment over the past week?
Continued eating healthy and maintained weight for a week before doctor cleared me to start losing again.

3. Which moment from last week was the most memorable?
Eating lunch with my friend and her two daughters – and I ate healthy, too!

4. What do I regret from last week and what can I do about it/ learn from it? Missed really being part of the team; I want to work with my coworkers in the same office again. And travel more… I can,uh, get a new job. (Working on it)

5. What’s the #1 thing I need to accomplish this week?
Take care of business with my son to help him prepare to be on his own.

6. What is the most stressful thing in my life right now?
Preparing for the Family Readiness Group meeting for the Army families.

7 . How can I go about improving it?
It is coming up soon, so staying on top of it and doing what I need to do in the next few days will keep me feeling accomplished and not have me scrambling so much at the last minute.

8. What have I been avoiding that needs to get done?
throw out stuff for moving…

9. What opportunities are still on the table?
So many opportunities – becoming healthier, job market looks good for what I do, friends helping me network to find a job I’ll love in a place I want to live

10. What am I forgetting?
To stay on top of things – we’re moving into hyper drive as we look for jobs, prepare to sell our house, move, and such – need to be at the top of my game

11. Is there anyone I’ve been meaning to talk to?
My good friend who is like a big sister to me – but we will be going to lunch soon, so that’s good

12. How can I help someone else this coming week?
Continue to keep myself healthy and well rested. This seems to be working.

13. What treat will I promise myself this week?
Lunch with my friend

14. What are my top 3 goals for the next 3 months?
1. Resolve job situation
2. Be ready to move (this includes my health!)
3. Get son squared away

15. Have any of my recent actions moved me closer to my goals?
Yes, yes and yes

16. What’s the next step for each goal?
1. Talk to an IT job recruiter
2. Make a trip to goodwill with all the stuff I’ve collected for donation so far
3. Go to job place with son and then to DMV (already scheduled both)

17. What am I looking forward to during the upcoming week?
Having the FRG meeting Behind Me!

18. What are my fears?
That my husband will hate living in The South and I will love it

19. What am I most grateful for?
To be engaged in life and moving forward

20. What can I do to make life more beautiful?
Clean my house 15 months ago

kmom2468Putting on an event for our unit

Will be fun, but it’s a lot of work. Everything is done by volunteers, so sometimes it’s difficult to get things done. Still, it will all work out. Trying to give it my best, but it’s difficult with also working full time. Someone who has more time needs to be in charge of this thing. Might be time for me to retire from the Army ;-) 15 months ago

kmom2468Volume Goal

I am trying to have only ONE pickup truck full of “my stuff” – such as books, clothes, house-hold essentials – since we have a whole CRAP load of cars, a few ATVs, a tractor, a boat, and all of these VERY LARGE toys. If I can pare it down to that, then those could live in an apartment with me and we wouldn’t have to pay storage for them… then after my other half arrives, we could move to somewhere bigger or rent storage for all the big toys. This is going to cost us $$$. I hope we never move across the country again. 16 months ago

kmom24688 lbs - 22 left to go

I can’t believe that I have lost almost as much weight in one WEEK as I lost in all of 2010! And, because I am exercising and under a doctor prescribed diet high in protein and nutrients, I actually have MORE energy than before I started on this crazy 1000 calorie diet.

I did cheat a few times and have ONE Godiva truffle on two different days (I did add it into my calorie count) – which is not too bad for the losing weight thing, but which is not good for the high sugar thing.

Not sure why I saved my “interview” clothes from 10 years ago – but I will soon actually FIT them again. I’m actually going to be SKINNIER, SLIMMER and HEALTHIER than 10 years ago. Who would have thought? I guess getting a fire lit under my butt was, eh, Motivational! 16 months ago

Are you away at college? If so, there may be counseling included in your school benefits… and, maybe you could be a passenger while your friends are running errands, like going grocery shopping and such. This might help you feel better about even getting in the car. Many blessings as you find your way back into the driver’s seat. 16 months ago

kmom2468Probably not cancer...but

Go see the school nurse if you’re parents aren’t believing you. If you are having pains anywhere, then something is wrong. Could be minor and easy to take care of. Could be something worse. Not knowing and not doing anything isn’t going to make you get better. At your age, it is probably NOT cancer; however, I’m not a doctor and I don’t know you. So see a health professional and put your fears to rest. Many blessings. 16 months ago

kmom2468Here goes ... number one

1. High blood pressure medication – not something one plans or wants to experience, but there you go, I’m experiencing it and it’s new. Luckily, it doesn’t seem like I’m going to experience any of the negative side effects; hopefully I will experience the benefits. 16 months ago
