It’s the beginning of Hemp History Week 2013 and to help kick it off may I suggest you do some light reading about what hemp is, the benefits of hemp, some of the industrial uses of the hemp plant, then take the next step and share what you learned, tell someone about it.
*tell a friend about hemp while hanging out,
*post a hemp question or fact on a forum and get the discussion going,
*Write a letter congress,
*buy hemp products, like food ( hemp seeds) , clothes( yoga pants), fabric ( shower curtain) this week
*create art about hemp
*change your profile picture to support hemp….
but 1st learn what hemp is and isn’t so you know what your talking about :-)

Hemp & Marijuana are not the same thing

Hemp in all it’s forms was legal just a few decades ago, as recently as the 1930’s for the USA…only the last few decades has this plant been illegal, and not just recreational & medicinal use but also the industrial use of hemp.

Industrial Hemp contains such trace amounts of THC ( the active ‘high” chemical in other strains of hemp) that this type of hemp cannot get any person or animal intoxicated, yet it’s fiber,pulp, and seeds can be and have been used to make all kinds of living supplies from wood-like building materials, papers, ropes, sails, clothes, etc from the fiber and pulp of the plant…..and from the seeds we can gain some of the purest forms of amino acids & omega fatty acids found in nature. Yet with the restrictive laws we have in US regarding any strain of hemp we are not even allowed to research the possible benefits of hemp, much less grow it for any of the various purposes one could. Now that 2 states ( Colorado & Washington ) have legalized “marijuana”, the time is ripe to help educate people on Hemp, what it is, what it isn’t, and how we could benefit from it again.

Please take a few moments to become more informed on the topic of Hemp and form your own opinion.

On Nov 6th 2012, the people of Washington state and Colorado state voted to re-legalize cannabis ( marijuana ) for all adults over 21 years of age. The details vary in each state, and while neither law is yet the most ideal or perfect, these are victories of astounding magnitude. Cannabis has been criminalized in USA for close to 80 years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_history_of_cannabis_in_the_United_States ) 1937 was the 1st arrest of a citizen for possession of cannabis to be precise. The decades since then people have fought to repeal the prohibition against cannabis, many of them believing it was unjustly criminalized in the 1st place.

The victories in these two state give real hope and demonstrate that the beginning of the end of prohibition against cannabis has arrived, the tide is growing & expanding, state by state and within a few years this country, and ideally the world will finally end the war on cannabis and get back to rediscovering the benefits of the hemp, particularly the industrial uses of hemp.

*Find out if there is a local hemp festival in your area and volunteer for that.
*Participate in hemp history week, which is in June

wear a t-shirt that says something positive and informative about hemp on it

Hempfest needs, wants, seeks volunteers of all types of skill sets to help put on the massive all volunteer “protestival” that is Seattle Hempfest.

The 21st annual Hempfest takes place August 17th-19th, with the week before and the week after being full of opportunities to “build up”, or “break down” the festival. It is an amazing festival to take part in in any form, and volunteering for Hempfest is a unique way to be an active activist.
