this is still something I’m struggling with :/ 5 months ago
How I did it: I first found out about burning man when I was in high school and was intrigued by the idea of a festival centered around burning huge effigies. I wrote a paper about the ritual of burning man and then kind of forgot about it for a few years.
Then last year I moved into a community where many veteran and enthusiastic burners lived. I was on the fence until July about getting a ticket, but then it hit me that this year, when I was grieving and turning 30 and in the midst of a career change, was the perfect year for me to go to burning man for the first time. I went on the eplaya forum, found someone who was willing to sell me my ticket, and spent August planning and packing. Went with a camp of 60 people and wouldn't trade it for anything - best week of my life. I learned so much about myself and others; it wiped away anxiety and I feel changed as a result. I would recommend it to anyone. Read how I did it… 9 months ago
1. Rearrange and purge our room of unnecessaries
2. Get a(nother) job (volunteer or paid)
3. Revisit our finances and make a plan
4. Meet with A.
5. Start making Halloween costumes with S. 9 months ago

Been meaning to go for a long time! Will definitely return to volunteer in the native plants garden. 14 months ago
i very recently inherited an awesome knife from my grandmother, who used it after my grandfather, who was a chef/owner. gotta maintain it! (she certainly did; it’s still really sharp even though it had been sitting in a drawer for a few years). it’s very precious to me, and i felt honored that my parents wanted me to have it. 14 months ago
well…so it’s been difficult to do this considering my schedule has been in an upheaval this whole month. First I had to go home unexpectedly for a few days, plus I also started up a new business out of my home and simultaneously a teaching job. Then that job ended and I just got a new job today starting next week (and I’m still doing the home biz job). In between, an old friend from SF visited me for a whirlwind 24 hours, we had my sister and her boyfriend visit, plus a friend visiting from overseas, and numerous social functions and other things which crop up when you live in a community such as ours. I’ve also been trying to keep up with maintaining our garden, which I started, and spend time with my husband and keep in touch with people and yadda yadda you know normal quote unquote life.
needless to say i haven’t had time to update 43Things – when I’m on the computer, it’s business-related – and then I got sick this past weekend, which really made me stop and reconsider the pace I’d been going at, and how since i started my “biz” i haven’t had much time if at all for the fun stuff like playing music (squeezed it in maybe once this month?) and spontaneous bits of fun here and there. There are also creative projects i’d like to try out, and just to be able to occasionally indulge in the fantasy world of the idle would be great.
Soo..I REALLY need to complete this goal – I mean, to do step 1 which is to even HAVE a schedule. And I think I need a planner. So that’s on my list…and I need to accomplish that before we go to Mexico, on Thursday.
Yep – my life is pretty full! 14 months ago
Realized, when I finally had the chance to breathe this afternoon, that I am my worst boss ever. 14 months ago
really difficult – i find that i only “have” time for the things that are the most pressing; outside of that it’s still hard to schedule structured, productive time.
i’ve been feeling very cloudy about my motivations lately, and i’m having a hard time being content. it doesn’t help that i just found out i’m going to have to find another ESL teaching job after this coming week… 15 months ago
posting about every time i do this, but i have been biking to my ESL job when i can. 15 months ago
Even though I’m not Irish, I really enjoy making corned beef and cabbage (and soda bread) for St. Patrick’s Day. 15 months ago
