Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

meliflowerHi Jimrin and DawnT!

These are great responses, thank you. Yes, Dawn, you hit the nail on the head in your second posting…my frustration with the cruelty of the system we’ve been given gave rise to questions about why…

I believe that there is an answer to the question…I don’t know what it is…I believe there is something fundamental to be understood from this system that on it’s surface is pure violence and a requirement for us to live. All of us, even the vegetarians among us if you consider the definition of a living creature.

Perhaps…some message about how we all tie in together and that all life is actually the same and there is no difference in life forms on some level? A message relating to the divine choreography of life, the grand design, and how we all belong, all participants on the food chain belong? I’m not exactly sure, it’s a question, that when I ask myself, these are the paths to which my own mind takes me..

Or a message about the flow, which Jimrin identified…we are part of an everlasting flow and energy exchange, part of it, not outside it?

Whatever it is, the food chain delivers a harsh message, yes…but nonetheless one that can be easily observed and somehow interpreted by all participants.

So today so far, I participated in the food chain by eating dried seaweed from the ocean, salame, from a cow, bread from the variety of component sources that it is comprised of, as well as sipping on chamomile tea. These are extremely varied foodsources, when a little thought is given to where they come from. According to Dawn-T, I also gave in some ways that I may not even be aware of (have a good breakfast, dust mites). It’s a jigsaw puzzle when you think of all the pieces and players, and it’s a real puzzle in other aspects as well. Thanks for your thoughts, DawnT and Jimrin! ;0) Meliflower 2 years ago

meliflowerI'm doing this right now...

I’ve done it again and again since I made this goal. I can’t really call them investments…they’re trades. Right now, I have a few losers in my portfolio…but some good ones too. My goal is to win with more than half the money. 3 years ago

meliflowerYeah buddy

that’s what I’m talking about…it’s Christmas…this goal has been on my page for years…and now is the time to let those important people know exactly who they are and put the negativity out of the way. I’m going to do my part to keep the positive energy flowing at a time of year it’s sorely needed. Cheers all! 3 years ago

meliflowerThe Food Chain and God

What is God trying to tell us with the food chain? In order for us to live, others have to die. Every meal, someone dies….plant, animal, or other. We are all either consuming from the food chain each and every day, or part of it. The tier 3 predators like ourselves tend to fall prey to the very bottom of the foodchain..detritus and bacteriae.

It’s a cruel system. We all strive so hard to keep living…by “we all”, I mean everyone in the food chain…everyone just wants to survive at all costs. We see it on the National Geographic’s harsh. We try so hard to conquer the food chain but one day we must all succomb to it and when we do, we will support others who are consuming.

So where does religion fit into this system, and God and spirituality. I am having a hard time reconciling the fact that we have such a cruel survival system to any sort of belief in God. I am having diffuculty figuring out what it all means. Someone help me understand. I apologize, 43thingers, that this is a little bit of a depressing topic. I’m confused and I need help to understand. 3 years ago
