Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

nloudonPregnancy & bronchitis

So Christmas went well, did not let the news out of the bag yet, hoping to wait for second trimester, however at the family Christmas Eve get together, my husband’s Uncle showed up sick as a dog with Bronchitis, proceeded to golf in the freezing temps in the snow. And (Uncle’s) son was also just getting over bronchitis. I am so miserably sick as no one said anything until the uncle started coughing horribly. I thought he simply had a hangover (not the first). Then they took him to the emergency room. Now I’m sick, my insurance just switched and my previous doctor is no longer covered and we have a 5,000$ deductible. This month has been a nightmare outside of finding out we’re pregnant. I worked today but came home with a wracking cough and green/yellow/brown phlegm. Drinking tea, had soups, and am now waiting on my awesome husband to bring home a humidifier so I’m not so miserable. I would smile but it’ll just look like a cringe from all the pain. Hope someone somewhere is having a perfect pregnancy to compensate for my bronchitis ridden one. 11 months ago

nloudonPregnant and trying to enjoy it

I found out on the 5th I was pregnant, I wasn’t super excited, mostly because of fear, but this pregnancy feels different, one I’m exhausted all the time, two, I’m starting to have to wear maternity clothes and I’m still in early stages. But we have a new dilemma, our insurance changed on December 1st. So now my ob-gun and the birth center I had set up are no longer in network. I’m kinda bummed about it. Tried a hospital tour last night and wasn’t a big fan. It seemed (even my husband agreed) it was all about amenities, big TV, free Wifi, nursery, food vouchers, but not much emphasis at all about care or birth. I felt like going there I’d be another number. And 3 days coped up in a small hospital room is not my idea of a good way to spend time with a newborn. True if a complication came up it’d be one thing, but 3 days in a hospital with a healthy baby seems like a bit much to me. I’m hoping we figure something out and I hope this baby stays for the long haul as well. 11 months ago

nloudonGluten free family issues

My family has a history of Celiac’s Disease, my mom pretends she doesn’t have it and refuses to listen to the doctor so she is a constant negative influence, wanting wheat toast or saying gluten free food tastes bad, so I end up having to trick her by not saying anything and then telling her once she says she likes it. As my grandmother also has it and she came out as well my mother would use her as an excuse or bait her into saying she doesn’t like gluten free or asking if she wanted something she knows I don’t have an hence my grandmother or my mother shouldn’t eat. It’s a bit of a constant battle to keep family members and myself gluten free. I managed it, but there were a few nearly heated arguments. 11 months ago

nloudonHopeful

Simplyli your response is great, I did have a prenatal exam before conceiving, had full blood done at doctors in March and have been on prenatal vitamins and calcium for at least 200 days now. I might ask my doctor the next time I go about the thyroid issue, though I’m hoping it was just environmental factors from finishing a room in our house. Dry wall dust ick now that it’s done I hope it will resolve itself but the iodine drops might be considered… Thank you for your support! I will definitely feel more hopeful next time. 12 months ago

nloudonpen pal letter/ thank you

Made a new friend out at faire during a rainy weekend. She sent me a drawing and a thank you for dancing with her. She was amazing. So I tried to be her pen-pal and send a thank you for the drawing/ letter just to say hi. It was kinda clumsy, but I don’t know Clara that well yet. 12 months ago

nloudonContinuation...

Not painted but it has grown on me in its current state. I like the imperfections about it, they make me happy. Plus I’ve been busy working on the new office and soon a nursery (we hope). 12 months ago

nloudonNot as easy as it looks

It would seem getting accidentally pregnant is hard, really hard. But we’ve only been trying for 4-5 months and had 3 miscarriages. The last one was a miscarriage at 8 weeks and it kinda put me into baby shock and had a costly doctor bill to go with. sigh12 months ago

nloudonFaire ends...

The season went well, though I think many things were left off the recruitment information, like heat rash. Also the Queen while being a good person is not exactly the best “Mistress” I was always a little sad an envious I was not part of the household. But I did enjoy the season of renaissance festival. I’m even occasionally a Romani, Natasha, and Spencer is my Boris. wink12 months ago

nloudonRoom repainted but unfinished

Repainted my office/guest room but not quite done. One wall needs another coat and I might do a decal on another wall for interest. 17 months ago

nloudonAnne Bassett

I’ve been officially cast as the Queen’s maid, although my only problem arises from lack of seamstress and trying to complete both my court costume and Spencer’s court costume has been rough. Especially with my father coming into town, a pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage followed by nasty viral illness that has kept me bed ridden all weekend. sigh but I’m cast and I hope that stands for something. 17 months ago

Wore one in June, my black trimmed flower square scarf. Looked great around shoulders as a shawl. 2 years ago

nloudonPainting

Well it would seem I have nearly painted every room but my own in my house as of late. Painted my husband’s office, painted the laundry room with both kilz and paint, and painted the storage room. With the house on the market I may have to wait on my next house. 2 years ago

nloudonComposting

One or two years (memory not so great) finally used in my front flower bed this past week on a rather warm (75 degrees Fahrenheit) day in January to level off the bed and hopefully in spring plant a few shrubs and flowers. 2 years ago

nloudonDecember thank you

Was a late wedding gift Thank you to some great friends of ours who were unable to attend our big day due to two family emergencies out of state. Got the note written and mailed shortly after my Christmas cards. Yay me! 2 years ago

nloudonFront craft area cleaned and relocated.

In lieu of an upcoming party, I finally talked my husband into redecorating the house, not necessarily buying new things but re-arranging what we have to optimize the space we do have. Sadly my craft items were relocated to my room which now needs a third flurry of reorganizing but after the front room, my husband’s office and cleaning the bathroom. I might leave that for another day and as another thing to do. 3 years ago

nloudonRed or Christmas

I finally talk amy husband into clearing off the mantle, since its been cluttered with his bachelor day items since I’ve moved in. I never could get him to relocate the items but after re-arranging his office and the curio all his items found a new home and the mantle is finally mine to decorate. Its sparse but with red accents to pick up a festive feel and also work well for upcoming Christmas. It looks better than it has in 3 years and my husband likes it. Win all around. Yay! 3 years ago

nloudonWedding dances

I danced the chicken dance and danced solo when I knew no one but the bride and I had a great time. I realized it wasn’t worth it to ruin my fun to ‘look good’ in front of the prudes. 3 years ago
