razz51Truly random

I was at the library and the man at the counter with me did not have $2 cash to pay for a replacement card he wanted and the library does not take cards. So I was delighted to have the opportunity do so. 1 day ago

razz51Dolly

My daughter’s dog, Dolly, reminds me of Black Jack. I was petting her and she made this little sound, half snort/ half sigh that was identical to the sound BJ used to make when happy and settled. Made me cry a little. She also follows me around like BJ did. 2 days ago

razz51In traction now

One of these days when I can afford it, I’m getting a better traction unit. This one requires me to clip two clips in the back of my neck. If I had that kind of range of motion I likely wouldn’t need traction! It does help, though. Now, if I could just get someone to pull on my leg for ten minutes or so I might feel human again. 2 days ago

razz51I just found out!

Seniors get a lifetime pass to all Federal Parks for a one-time fee of just $10! Whoo hoo! I love visiting the parks. There’s one not far from me where I can purchase it. This will also encourage me to take more road trips. Now if my car just holds up! 2 days ago

razz51Time for a break

I wrote one of our newsletters this morning and filed a grant. Today is a fast day, so I don’t get a snack, but I will heat up my leftover tea and enjoy. Then back to work. I want to take off Thursday this week as well as Friday, so I need to put in 6-7 hours today and tomorrow and Wednesday. 2 days ago

razz51I am so impressed!

Look at you all housewifey-like! Don’t forget to order an apron! The granbeanie loves making cake pops. We’ve only made the ones where one basically makes a dreadful paste of cake crumbs and icing. I’ve only just become aware of the cake pans for this. I will be interested in how well they work. You might really like making those with the automatic baker. Decorating them is fun and you could so impress the Friday Friends with this!

I used to make elaborate cakes as a creative outlet before I built my pottery studio. I’ve even used cake decorating techniques and tools in decorating my pottery. Now that I think of it, I think I may have to do more! 2 days ago

razz51Time to go to work

Think I’ll grad another cup of tea before I head into my study for a day at work! 2 days ago

razz51Old age home for dogs

I’ve got my daughter’s dog again this year while they travel. I don’t know that I can give her back. She’s Black Jack’s pup, now 13, and her age is showing. Poor thing, she is afraid of my kitchen floor. It’s dark and I think she thought it was dirt but it’s just so hard and smooth it confused her. She’s an outside dog at home but here I keep her in and she seems to like that. My three steps are hard for her but she only has to do them 2 or 3 times a day. At home she has an inside area that is cool in the summer and warm in the winter but I think she likes being around me and Sweetie and Clark. At home she has Sammy, who is top dog. And the little girls, of course. But she is so much older than just last year. I will have to talk with my daughter about her. I just want to do the better thing for her. I’m just not sure what that is. 2 days ago

razz51Deal!

I know sometimes I see something I think I just have to try to make. Did this picture come with directions? 2 days ago

razz51Take pictures!

This I have GOT to see! 3 days ago

razz51Life is just so long

Last night I did not sleep well and woke with disquieting thoughts for company. Some concerned my brother, who not long ago treated me badly, without cause. His wife has had some heart trouble and they did not call me, calling my daughter instead. I was again offended but decided to put this aside and call to inquire after her. I was glad I did. It occurred to me that by not calling they were aware of the estrangement they had caused. That is a first step, at least. 3 days ago

razz51Watching

Downton Abbey! I didn’t think I’d like it but after a couple of episodes I’m quite enjoying it. 4 days ago

razz51The beanies & Co. are going on vacation for 3 weeks

I will so miss them! But it will give me time to work on this project. I made my blue pancakes this week and had forgotten how good they are. 5 days ago

razz51All Fridays - off!

Today I went to another town to visit a friend I haven’t seen in months. We had a lovely lunch and stopped by Trader Joe’s! Work takes so much out of us and keeps us from so much. I am truly appreciating my partial retirement. I wonder if it will last? 5 days ago

razz51I've noticed, too

I would certainly miss it. I feel invested in so many of the people here and this site is so different from the FB and Twitter types because here people speak in sentences about their own lives. I like that. I would certainly hope that should 43T sputters we would be allowed time to print out or download our years of interactions here. 5 days ago

razz51The beanies

I took my beanies to the library today to get more books and see the therapy dogs. The jellybeanie fell in love with the great Dane. There were labs, which she liked and hugged and a few collies who were very sweet but she said, “I love Bo.” He towered over her and she was not at all daunted. The granbeanie was partial to Daisy, on of the collies who was simply unflappable. It is such fun being available during the day to do stuff like this with them. Later I went into work for a staff meeting. 1 week ago

razz51Almost midnight

And the dogs are at it again! I think the pit bull is injured. He sounds like he’s in pain. I tried calling animal control but no one answered. Tomorrow. I have no words for how much I hate this. 1 week ago

razz51Violence

I’m a smallish older woman with bad bones. I try to avoid violence. I would not come out ahead in a fight but I would not hesitate to use violence if pushed to defend myself or those I love. 1 week ago

razz51Wow,

I thought they only existed on TV! 1 week ago

razz51Dogs

I now have two dogs in the yard directly behind mine. One is a female black chow and the other some mix. Both are friendly, but then I do give them treats. The dog in the yard diagonal to mine is alongside theirs. Today they got into a huge fight, right through the fence. I managed to stop it long enough for their people to come out. The woman with the pitbull just beat on him screaming at him to stop. He didn’t. The woman who owns the other two dogs came out but couldn’t control her two, either. I quickly got Clark away from the fence, where he was just watching and quaking a bit. I groomed him to calm him down. The police were called and finally it stopped. I felt bad for all the dogs. People need to control their dogs! They get hurt otherwise. 1 week ago

razz51I keep working around pottery:

I glaze a little, clean up the studio, dry out the tarps, mix up glazes, slake my clay. In another week the clay I mixed up last week should be ready to use. All my efforts to mix up the clay resulted in a bunch of arm pain, elbow pain and hand weakness so it’s good I have to wait a while before throwing again. Still, I want! 1 week ago

razz51filed one more grant today

Then I quit! As promised, I’ve been working on my own projects: I have about 50 pounds of dry clay slaking (one must crush it first!); I moved all my bisqueware to the perfect room and glazed a few pieces. I found the firing schedule I needed for my matt glazes, buried in one of my many glaze books; decided to mix up more glazes (I’m such a glaze slut), and broke up a dog fight among my neighbors’ dogs. I haven’t, however gotten any reading done, so I’m off to the tub for a soak with a book! Not a bad day at all. 1 week ago

razz51Worked

I worked a lot the last couple of days so tomorrow, not so much. I have a few things I need to do but then I plan to work on my own projects for a change. 1 week ago

razz51At 62 I have no self-esteem issues

I didn’t at 52, 42, 32, or even at 22. Maybe at 12. I don’t think I’m great or anything like that, but I have taken the full measure of myself and not found it lacking. I know where I am strong and where I am weak and the knowing is what is important, I think. 1 week ago

razz51Tonight

I met a group of bikers (think Harley, not Schwin) at a restaurant I’ve not been to before. It’s a new pizza place and it smelled and looked good but I ordered only a Pepsi, because today is a fast day.

The only thing I get at McD’s is their baked apple pie. I really like it. I don’t order Happy Meals. 1 week ago

razz51GRU is just 2 miles from me

So classes there would have been easy. I thought about a course in economics, maybe one in math (I’m horribly rusty) and I’m always up for art classes. I’d like to do water colors, or at least learn some watercolor techniques. Can’t learn that on line. Before the colleges merged (Augusta State and Medical College of Georgia) ASU offered all its courses free to those over 62, as long as there was room. Guess those days are gone for good. Online courses mean more time at the computer. Sigh. 1 week ago

razz51Georgia Tech offers free classes

But only online. I enjoy actually going to classes. Still, I’ll look into it. 1 week ago
