Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I didn’t achieve a personal best, but I was certainly close. I’ll try a half marathon again in two months, before that tho I’ll achieve a personal best full marathon! 22 months ago

rhinobrinkTraining programme

I’ve signed on to Adidas miCoach which has a nice range of training plans. It links nicely with iPhone’s GPS and calendar, so it’ll be more easy to track progress. I already feel fitter than this time last year. I’m not training specifically for the half. The full marathon programme should give enough sessions to beat my personal best. 1 year ago

rhinobrinkClosing out

The list continues to grow, so doesn’t make sense to set as a goal. Besides, I think I now have better places to manage this activity, such as generic scrap book Springpad, or movie specific app iMDB. 2 years ago

rhinobrinkThru running I live

My running is and active lifestyle is good demonstration of living life to the full. No distance is too tough, no conditions are too uncomfortable. Thru being active I live and love life. 2 years ago

rhinobrinkHappy, healthy boys

This is an ongoing goal. I think it’s fine to close though. We started it right, and they know how to enjoy themselves and have a lovely healthy lifestyle. 2 years ago

rhinobrinkStay positive

I feel I’ve made enough progress on this, and keep myself out of negative discussions and find the positive in things. Life is good, it can always get better – focusing on the negative doesn’t help with either. 2 years ago

rhinobrinkAussie camping

We made real progress with this goal in August. Despite the cold winter weather we hired a campervan, and enjoyed a week long family trip. We’ll certainly do it again also. 3 years ago

rhinobrinkSpring cleaned

Went through a very cluttered drawer and shed a lot of stuff. But must continue and maintain. 3 years ago

rhinobrinkGetting better

Joining an airline has helped with this task. I haven’t done a lot of travel, but certainly more than I used to.

Trips this year have included Kenya and the UK, and our annual trip home to Australia. 3 years ago

rhinobrinkKenyan trip

I had the marvelous opportunity to fly to Nairobi on a humanitarian visit. Although it was a short stay, we felt a good taste of the African experience. 3 years ago

rhinobrinkMovie watching - Life is Beautiful & Brazil

Since I set this goal, I saw Life Is Beautiful. I must cornily say, “Move is beautiful”. I can’t believe how deeply I was swept into the shoes of the father in such a grim situation. And it was so beautiful and admirable how he brought such gusto into shielding his son from the harsh realities around him. It’s a fantastic movie that takes you through a sea of emotions – but the subject matter is a little tough to get through, so 4.5/5.

Brazil was a bit of cult movie from what I understand. I could see the unique story line would appeal to people. When I watched it though I wasn’t in the perfect mood for a science fiction tale, so I’d give it a pass mark only – 3/5.
