wembleyheadswhat a doozie!

Wow TG, that looks incredibly painful :( I agree with the others, listen to the docs and stay off of it as long as possible while your body repairs. Sending healing energy your way! 2 weeks ago

wembleyheadsoh dear!

I had no idea about your butterfly phobia!! I also admit, as Nic commented, I thought it was a party for fancy dresses, not a fancy dress/costume party. Instead, I will go as Animal from the Muppets. :) 3 weeks ago

wembleyheadsPlanting seeds

photo of my aunt’s orchid tree in bloom

I admire and must adopt what Solasea said: “Do the things I have to so I can do the things I want to.” Time to get through a few growing pains so I can blossom. I also love Bermudamohawk’s tactic of “daily growth, monthly blooms.”

A few pains…
✶ finish this semester’s grading
✶ make summer lab schedules
✶ deep clean lab
✶ clean and pack my house to move
✶ create/organize the summer class

Daily growing to nurture…
✷ stretch/yoga each morning
✷ eat slowly, mindfully, healthily
✷ drink more water
✷ walk, anywhere, at least 20 minutes
✷ meditate, pray
✷ get more sleep by going to bed earlier

Month-long blooms…
✹ plant gardens
✹ get the house ready
✹ post some bird checklist entries
✹ plan a kayak or SUP afternoon
✹ day hike at least once each at Balcones and McKinney
✹ time with friends and family
✹ time smiling and relaxing 3 weeks ago

wembleyheadsScissortails have returned in good fashion.

Thought of you as I must have seen dozens perched on wires during my drive to and from mom’s house last weekend. You were in the wrong part of Texas, a month early! 3 weeks ago

wembleyheads#12 Thai broccoli casserole

This was a total experiment, and it worked! Yum! No fake cheese needed for a broccoli rice casserole :)

2 big stalks broccoli
1 big red bell pepper and a couple of snack-sized orange ones
1 onion
handful of baby carrots
oil for stir fry
a few spoonfuls of green thai curry paste (I used this)
1 c uncooked brown rice = 3 c cooked
1 can coconut milk, full fat of course

Cooked rice. Chopped and stir fried veggies. Added curry paste and coconut milk to veggies. Threw in cooked rice and stirred it all around. Dumped into casserole pan and cooked 30 min at 350F. Easy peasy and yummy :) 3 weeks ago

wembleyheadsOoooh! fancy dress party

That sounds lovely! Will you be wearing the bunny suit? I think I’d like to wear this butterfly dress. I don’t own any such thing—the closest I have to dress up party outfits are two ruffly layered dresses from the thrift store that get accessorized for 80s singalongs :) 3 weeks ago

wembleyheadsAhahaha!

Thank you for the laugh! :D 4 weeks ago

wembleyheadsVery exciting, Ru!

Crossing fingers and toes and eyes and buns for you that it all goes well in the next week, and you are in your new home soon! And really, how super cool that the scrap of paper was hiding there on the fridge the whole time. :) 4 weeks ago

wembleyheadsThe list is what's plantable at this time

but we will probably not plant all of those things! I’ve got to find out how deep the dirt needs to be for those root veggies (beets and sweet potatoes).

I’m pretty confident that we can plant beans, chard, okra, and peppers. Hopefully if I start them from plants instead of seeds, I can get some tomatoes going, too! 4 weeks ago

wembleyheadsGreat tip, Nic!

I hadn’t even considered putting up gopher wire. Another thing I will need to look into! Thank you so much! 4 weeks ago

wembleyheadsPlanting calendar

Thanks for the tips! I looked up the planting calendar for our county. We are only going to get started by mid-May. They recommend starting from seed:

May 1-15
Lima Beans
Snap Beans
Beets
Chard
Okra
Black-eye Peas
Pepper Plants
New Zealand Spinach
Sweet Potatoes
May 15-31
Lima Beans
Beets
Okra
Black-eye Peas
Pepper Plants
Sweet Potatoes

So if you have tips on how any of those work in containers, I’d love to hear them! I also plan to contact the extension office for their advice. 4 weeks ago

wembleyheadspallet garden

I’ve been thinking of doing a raised bed, and my sister texted me the above photo. I’ve got a friend who can get free, discarded pallets from his workplace, and my significant other already has garden cloth. This doesn’t have to last forever; eventually I’d like to build the self-watering kind of raised beds.

Has anyone tried this? I’d love your thoughts and tips. I am wondering if it’s deep enough, or if there are other problems I haven’t anticipated. Thanks!! 4 weeks ago

wembleyheadsHappies! week of April 17-23

I’m so far behind at life in general, my happy-writing routine is slumping along. I did have one of the best weekends I’ve had in many months though :)

Wonderful happies in the past week!

❧ thinking about living together
❧ making plans for a garden

❧ getting a lot clean in the yard and house
❧ lots of phone calls with my little sister
❧ finding out I will get to teach this fall, too, at the campus nearest my home
❧ having nice, cooperative coworkers
❧ feeling like most everything is going as it should be 4 weeks ago
