Raiding the KitchenAid fund 4 months ago

Well, I have $250 saved (my goal is $400) towards my KitchenAid. The trouble is, I discovered that I really want to get a pressure cooker, so that I can can things… and the one I want to get is almost $200 (it’s so expensive because it’s an all-aluminum model made in Wisconsin, not a typical mass market store brand one … apart from the made in America aspect, this one is all metal with no gasket to maintain/wear out, and has fantastic reviews, so I’m pretty set on it). The contention is this. I could raid the KitchenAid fund for the money to buy it, which would mean it will take me pretty much all the way until next April to get the KitchenAid (April being the month I will be in Greenville, OH to visit the KitchenAid Experience store which is where I plan to choose and buy my mixer, where I can see them all in person). I’d prefer not to raid the KitchenAid fund, but if I wait until I can save up $200, summer (and therefore canning season) will be over. I’m not certain what I want to do. I wish there was someplace I could rent a pressure cooker for a while to make sure I like canning, before investing in one. I’ve been watching on craigslist with no luck, but I have just subbed to an RSS feed of the search, so we’ll see if one turns up before I make up my mind.

Halfway saved! 6 months ago

$200 in my savings is earmarked for this. I’m not in a real rush though, since I’m not going to buy it as soon as I have the money. I plan to be in Greenville, OH, next April (for an unrelated thing), where there’s a (the?) KitchenAid Experience store. I plan to get my KitchenAid then, so I can have my choice of what model and color and whatever accessories. It seems like a long ways away though. :)

Have to save money for this 9 months ago

I recently eliminated my credit card debt, racked up by years of instant gratification-itis. And I’m not going to do that again, so I’m going to have to save up to buy the KitchenAid I want (and have badly wanted, for ages). I think if I save $400 that should be enough to buy the one I want—I want the 6 quart bowl-lift model, which lists at about $500 but is currently on sale for about $350 at amazon. So I figure I can save halfway between those two and bide my time for a sale.

I’m going to designate $50 of my monthly savings for this, for 8 months.
