I got one yesterday, one of the mini ones, and they are so fun and supposedly burn 6 cals a min. I’m loving it !

Useful info 8 months ago

Hey found this in my weight loss book. Its so obvious but it seemed to help me focus a bit more on what I’m trying to achieve….

...The Energy Equation

Our body weight is the result of the balance between the amount of energy taken in,measured in cals, and the amount used up. This means that if you consume more calories than your body needs and don’t use them up through physical activity, then the excess is stored as fat and you become fatter.

If you consume fewer calories than you need, you body will use up stored fat to provide the neccessary energy, and you will become slimmer. This process can be speeded up by the level of physical activity that you do.

....in conclusion if you’ve just had a binge then don’t panic just find a way of using that energy (calories).

This isn’t a preach this is as much for me as for anyone who cares to read I just thought it was interesting to get back to basics.

...anyway off on a mediterranean cruise in end of may and want to lose 5 pounds in 10 weeks thinking very achievable.

Current weight – 9 stone 3
aim – 8 stone 12
(5’7)

Good luck to everyone!

Just to update my last entry... 8 months ago

Just found this just to show that my last paragraph on previous entry could well be inaccurate. I don’t want people undereating cos of what I wrote;

There’s a rule-of-thumb formula for estimating how many calories you burn at rest. For men: Add a zero to your weight and then add twice your weight. For women: Add a zero to your weight and then add your weight. Using the formula, your expected resting calories needs would be 2,100 a day. (To 175 add a zero, giving you 1,750, and to this figure add two times 175, or 350, for a total of 2,100.)

KEEP IT GOING EVERYONE! 8 months ago

Just thought I’d add some words of encouragement for everyone;

Your first weight loss can take time – it takes a while for your body to get going and realise what you’re doing so don’t worry if it takes four weeks with no weight loos. Be patient and it will happen.

Also building muscle will mean that you will not see great loss on scale. If you’re working out though, the food you are eating goes towards fueling your muscles instead of snuggling into your bum/thighs/tum. Also speeds up motbalism so burn fat quicker.

The main thing is not to beat yourself if you overeat at times. you can’t change the past, only the future and you’re only human. Get back on the horse and try again and remember the reason you’re doing this.

Lastly, I found this real useful, this is how to work out how many cals your body needs to function each day. I read it somewhere so this is by no means 100% correct;

Multiply weight in kilos by 0.9 (so mines 59.7×0.9=53.73)
Times this answer by 24 so mines 1289.5 so this is how many cals I need to fuel my body each day.

To lose 1/2 pound a week you need to eat 1750 cals less a week or 250 less a day either by working out or eating less. So in theory I should be eating 1039.5 cals a day pluse 25% of this for moderate exercise. I try to stick to this but go over a little each day but not that bothered. Its only a guideline.

Listen to me rabbiting on….

Hope this helps and good luck everyone.

New gal 9 months ago

Hey guys,

I’m another new one and felt I’d like to share with you my progress (or lack of!). At 130Ibs and 5’7 though down to average of 28 points per day. I’m on my own weight-watchers style point system where basically 50 cals =1 point and I can earn points back through exercise say 15 min walk is 1 point earned. It works for me anyhow!

I have two tips to my dieting friends out there;

.check out an English DVD called Peak Energy by Nell McAndrew. I do this twice a week and boy does it work to get my super toned. Its about £3 off of Amamzon second hand. Check it out.

also…
.try the veg bake I’ve been eating. Full of nutrition and hardly any cals and tastes great. You need a baking tray and cut the following into slices;

3 peppers (different colours to mix it up)
2 tomatoes
10 mushrooms
2 red onions
2 courgettes

and bake until soft in the oven. Bake enough for the week and it lasts and can go with anything….fish, potato.

Good luck to everyone and please can we all share more tips.

Knowledge is power and all that!
