Piece of News I've Been Waiting To Read for Weeks 8 months ago

Finally!!! Today, March 11, 2008, on page A-4, column 2 of the Manila Bulletin. The newspapers finally picked up on the topic of illegal trade of children’s internal organs! I’ve heard about this a few weeks ago from my roommates. There are children who are being kidnapped and then a few days later they are found dead with organs missing. Money is found on the places where the organs where cut out. As of now, this thing has been happening to 4 provinces. I don’t know about the others but I guess this syndicate is growing.

Now, why do the papers don’t touch on things like this? This is more important than those bickering politicians who do nothing but argue and waste the people’s taxes on unimportant activities. This should be on the frontpage of every national paper of this country. Hello there people! The future of our country are being kidnapped and treated like pigs!We say that our country is an advocate of children’s rights but trade of children’s organ does not even merit a full page on our papers. Hypocrisy! grrr…

Manila Bulletin 8 months ago

I changed newspaper again. I’ve decided that Manila Bulletin is better than the 2 I’ve been reading. The news coverage is good and broader than the othr two. The only problem I have with it is that there are so many typographycal errors that are distracting. I hope they fix them.

news balck-out! 8 months ago

There’s no newspaper today! All nespapers come from the capital which is Manila. There was a rally staged yesterday asking the president to resign. And now, there’s a news black-out. Maybe the newspapers were blocked from going out of the capital. So we people from the provinces have no idea what’s happening up there unless we watch TV or listen to the radio. And doing those things is diffrent from reading the papers. You just get flash reports, the highlights, but not the entire story. I’m excited for tomorrow. I’ so curious what the papers would say about this news black-out.

Crossword 8 months ago

I’ve been buying the two national papers in my country. They’re rivals—the Philippine Daily Inquirer(PDI) and the Philippine Star.
I’ve noticed that the news section of PDI is better than that in the Star. They have the same news but they treat them differently. In the Opinions section, I prefer Star. PDI is a little bit pessimistic and somewhat critical of the government. They’re opinions are more of cons than pros for the government. I’m neither for or against my government. It’s good in some areas while it sucks on others. And it does need A LOT of improvement. I know it, my countrymen know it, the government itself knows it.
Anyway, enough about politics, back to the Opinions section. I don’t like reading just the bad things, I also want some good things. I think for a balance coverage of issues, the papers should both highlight the good and the bad.
Another difference with the two papers is their crossword puzzles. The PDI crossword is difficult no matter what day it is! It’s frustrating to do. Yesterday, I had no answer and it was just Friday! On the other hand, the Star crossword is easier. Yesterday, I got 3/4 of it. If I want to exhaust my brain, I would go for the PDI crossword. If I want to cheer up my ego, I would go for Star. Maybe, what made the PDI more difficult is that it doesn’t have a theme, while the Star does. The crossword puzzles of Star have titles on them.

until the day I get my diploma 9 months ago

That would be in April of this year. Also, I have to write an entry about interesting news I’ve read everyday. Don’t care if they’re only interesting to me.
