People in my office seem to have finally realized that I have a lot of complex tasks that keep me occupied, and they have recently started making appointments with me to discuss matters that will take some time, rather than just interrupting and expecting me to drop everything.

I like this new trend very much!

It is causing me to feel less grumpy!

Demanding D called me in (of course) a panic, about some spreadsheet changes that had to be done RIGHT NOW. After listening to what was needed, I started to repeat it back to make sure I understood. I said, “So you want me to…” She interrupted with, “This isn’t what I WANT, this is something that HAS to be done…blah, blah, blah.” When her rant was over, I again resumed repeating back her instructions: “So you want me to..” and she again interrupted me with, “This isn’t about what I WANT…blah, blah, blah.”

At that point, I was very tactless and insensitive and scolded her for acting like such a jerk.

Today I told a co-worker that I wasn’t happy with the lack of professional courtesy she was displaying towards her role and how it relates to my class. I calmly and firmly told her why I wasn’t happy. Was very blunt and to the point but kept it professional and made no judgments….....It feels really good, I think they were a bit taken aback, I kind of got the impression that they thought I wouldn’t say anything and just let it slide. The best part is that I am so glad I did. It was done in such a way that I have absolutely no reason to feel guilty …....and I am not going to!

First thing this morning, I took care of Odious Task 1 & 2, which was talking to two employees about being accountable for their time. I feel in a panic over it now. I hate the way I approached the conversation. I was too, too apologetic and wimpy. Now I am awash in a sea of shame.

There are worse crimes, after all :)
