I do not want to mark this as done. Weird. I’ve tried to a few times but I cannot bring myself to do it.

Hallelujah! 1 week ago

I have liked Obama ever since the first time I saw him at the Democratic Convention in 2004. Now I’m thrilled to call him our President!

My husband and Mother were both Hillary fans, but I did not share their enthusiasm. I like Hillary okay, but I always had a feeling that Obama was the Democratic candidate with the best chance of winning. And after the hell our party went through in 2004, winning was really all that I cared about. I couldn’t bear the thought of coming so close and losing again! Hell, I probably would have voted for Donald Duck if I thought he would win. Even a cartoon character like that would be preferable to what we’ve been getting from the Republican Party!

Thank you Lord, for letting Obama win and proving my intuition was right!

won!!!!!

I noticed that there was a very sharp difference between the two rally’s last night. The Mccain supporters were booing Obama’s win and the Obama’s supporters were cheering John Mccain for his hard campaign. . What a shame.
Anyway, I really loved seeing the people cheering all over the world.

For the first time in my life.... 1 week ago

I was left speechless. There we were, my family…glued to the tele. One minute Obama had 207 and when it jumped to 288, I couldn’t speak. I thought I would be screaming & cheering at this point, as I pictured in my head so many times. Instead, I found myself with my mouth wide open and tears upon tears pouring down my face. Was this really happening? Did my dreams, like so many millions of Americans (and people all over the world, who were rooting for him as well) just get their wish come true?
My boyfriend and daughters were going crazy, but for one small moment (which seemed like eternity)...I took it all in. I exhaled….......and then I WENT CRAZY, JUMPING UP AND DOWN, CALLING FAMILY, DANCED, HUGGED, CRIED, CRIED & CRIED!! I will never forget the way I felt at that moment, for the rest of my life. I am just sooo proud of ALL OF US who voted for this wonderful man. Friends, family, online buddies…each and everyone one of us who came together and made a difference in this world.
Did we choose the right man to lead?
Did we just make history?
Did we all come from different backgrounds and unite as one?

OH YES WE DID!
OH YES WE DID!
OH YES WE DID!
OH YES WE DID!
OH YES WE DID!

This is an election for the ages... 1 week ago

It showed that hope can triumph over hate, reason can triumph over ignorance, and amibition can triumph over impudence. It showed that the collective power of individuals is stronger than that of major corporations. It showed that it’s ok to hope for a better life.

As Bill Clinton said “I think most people understand this is not just a choice between candidates – it’s a choice between philosophies.” We didn’t just elect Barack Obama, but we said we want a different direction than the Republican party has taken us these past 8 years (or actually even past couple of decades). We are saying it is still important to respect the rights of individuals instead of trying to mandate how people are “supposed” to live.

One of the areas that amazed me were how many McCain supporters were ignoring the poll numbers. Polling is a science. While there are reasons why polls may not be accurate, as a science, the good polling organizations are adjusting their methods to improve the results. It’s almost as if McCain supporters were trying to follow the Palin (or even Bush or McCain) method of science: “If it doesn’t feel right in the gut, then it mustn’t be right.” It’s almost like they are trying to take major steps backwards in how to make judgments based on ignoring analytical information. It then doesn’t surprise me that McCain supporters who quickly dismissed polls were also the ones who easily accepted unfounded claims by the McCain camp, such as all the smear towards Obama. I’m sure there is still a significant portion (albeit small) who believe Obama is Muslim.

Anyway, as broad as this defeat is for the Republicans, we may see the Republican Party implode. They currently have no leadership and no direction. The extreme right-wing and neocons took over the Republican Party and have basically had a major train wreck. Perhaps moderate Republicans will rebel. Perhaps they will leave the party to form their own party, and the right-wing extremists will be left with a dying political party. Then perhaps in the future we can have elections based on issues rather than smear. For the future of this country, we can only hope.
