Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Planning for the trip

So I’ve been thinking about the trip lately and have started a to do before we leave list and a list of things that I’d like to do when we get there:

Before:
Get my passport!
Save Save Save
Research as much family history here as possible-have the facts organized
Then create a list of what I want to find there; as well as locate the resources/places to go there to search for that

There:
Visit:
the towns of our ancestors-their homes/parishes/grave sites?
(So far the counties look like Ostergotland; Vastmanland; Dalarna)
Art Museums
Glass shops; tile/ceramic shops; quilt shops

What are some of your thoughts Fidgie?

Aiming for 2014

I spoke with my sister. We are going to aim for summer of 2014 to make a visit to Sweden. Yeah!

Debating

about whether to leave this on my goal list or simply to let it live over at 43 Places. However, since this isn’t just going to be a simple DH-and-I-buy-a-plane-ticket-and-go trip, it’s going to involve other family members, and saving up money, and learning some language, and doing some family research, etc., I will leave it here.

Maybe 2011 or 2012?

Kind of a faraway goal, but that's ok

This will have to wait until I am out of debt. After my sister’s wedding, no more big trips until the rest is eradicated. However, 43T is about dreaming, so it’s ok to put it up. These types of adventures do not just fall into our laps. We have to commit, plan, work toward realizing them. So with V day over the debt scheduled in about 2.5 years, or faster if my snowball keeps rolling at the rate it has been, I can then look at enjoying a trip to my ancestors’ homeland.

The plan as of tonight is to go with sis, mom, aunt, and cousin tenatively in June of 2009.
We have established we want to go and are planning a date.
Next step, verify if all above want to go.
Then, establish when for sure based on those people.
Then plan on length of travel.
