I submitted a book – a collection of short stories, really – to a publisher. Now I’m waiting for a response.

I’m gonna take one of my book ideas and think of it as a graphic novel so from now on I’ll write about it under the goal of “create a comic book.”
I decided that the shortest route to getting published was to write a different novel. So far it’s writing itself. That other novel is still a good concept and I may pick it up again.
Still doing research for my nonfiction book.
The book that is almost done is stalled because I can’t get any movement out of my coauthor.
Suddenly I find myself stuck at home for a few weeks at least. I decided to put the time to good use by writing a novel. I am still interested in the nonfiction book that I started but find that being anchored to the apartment puts the damper on research.
Reading Joseph Campbell’s Masks of God series inspired me to write a couple of books. One is a short one about a myth and the other is more of a social theory that wouldn’t make a bad master’s thesis. I’ll take a pass at both ideas and see if either of them has potential.
Last week a friend of mine hosted a party where writers got together to read their work aloud, from short stories to screen plays to scholarly papers. It was a great place to try out ideas on an audience. For me, having to read something to another person is the fastest way to find its imperfections. I hope that the writer’s party becomes a regular thing.
So…My Illustrated picture book is on hold for now. I’ve decided to do it using photography instead of painting which makes it a huge undertaking. I want to complete my short film before I start another multi-year task.
My book of found graphics isn’t going to happen. I tried putting it in blog form and it’s not the hit that I hoped it would be.
In the meantime a friend and I wrote a book. We didn’t intend it to be a printed book; we thought it was going to be more like a book on tape meets a radio drama. After a couple of years of collecting dust, we see an opportunity for it to get published. We still have to make some adjustments to make it suitable for the printed page and after that it’s on it’s way to the publisher.
I moved out of my studio space yesterday. I wasn’t getting out there enough to justify the expense. I don’t mind having to find another space. That one was less than ideal. Not only was it out of the way, the vibe of the neighborhood and the building weren’t right either.
I started another book. This one uses found graphics so it’s not that much trouble to work on. I just need to keep my eyes peeled for appropriate material.
We’ll see which one gets completed first. I have higher hopes for the illustrated book in terms of getting it published.
I’m working on an illustrated picture book. I’m subletting a corner of a painting studio out in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where I’m painting the pictures. I think I’m about one third of the way to completion and I want to send it out to publishers by the end of the year.
