Thanks to all of you who have already given me your details. Everyone is on my list and numbered up ready to go on 1st Dec :)

We now have 19 people taking part in 43Things Secret Santa, which is fantastic – don’t forget, it’s still not too late to join, so feel free to invite all your 43T friends along to take part as well :)

From the comments so far, it seems that $20 is the preferred limit, so I think we’ll go with this. It’s your choice what you choose to spend, if you’re feeling generous, but there’s no expectation to spend more than this, so it’s up to you :)

I have already received addresses from some people, so if you haven’t already done so, could you please message me with your details as soon as possible before 1st December?

Depending on how many people end up taking part by then, I will ask you to give me a number between 1 and the total number, which I will match to my list. I will endeavour to send the addresses out to all Secret Santas by 3rd December :)

to become a secret Santa…thanks dear Zijue for the invite ;-) now, I am excitedly thinking about a special gift for my “manito or manita” (manito means the one receiving my gift…)

There have been a couple of suggestions here for the spending limit, and here for how to do the draw.

If you haven’t already done so, could you please comment to say if you agree or have any other suggestions?

I would like to suggest that everyone taking part get their addresses to me before 1st December, as this allows plenty of time for purchase and overseas shipping. Once there is a cut-off, the draw can take place :)

Thanks to everyone signed on for this :) I thought it might be worth spending some time trying to get as many people involved as possible, and then to give time for me to get us all matched up with each other, get gifts and send them to each other, it may be worth setting a cut-off date.

Also, any ideas on a spending limit? Please comment with suggestions and also, if you’re definitely taking part, and everyone’s happy with the option of me collecting addresses to distribute to your Secret Santa, please message me to let me know :)

After a little discussion with Emilia, it seems to me that there are 2 clear options for how to operate 43Things Secret Santa.

The main issue is privacy regarding addresses. So, as fun as this idea seems, I think it is worth considering the best way to ensure protection of personal data.

A draw takes place and we each contact our ‘giftee’ for their address.

Upside: everyone only knows the address they need to, in order to send the gift.
Downside: it is not very ‘secret’ who your Santa is! :)

A draw takes place. Everyone taking part sends their address to one individual that everyone agrees on – that person issues each address to the appropriate person (I would suggest by email is the most secure).

Upside: It is actually a ‘secret’ Santa.
Downside: One individual obtains everyone’s addresses who are partaking, so some trust required for this option.

If there are any other options, please let me know, and we can start making arrangements :)

Yay! There are now 3 people doing this, so that’s a start :) I forgot to mention that if you are interested in doing this goal, please feel free to invite everyone you can think of on here, so we can get as big a group as possible involved :)

Many of us partake in a Secret Santa each year, and it got me thinking how cool it would be to do one on here :) I figured if I found out who would want to take part in one with me, I could collect names, and then there can be a draw from those names (may need some technical way of doing this, seeing as the paper variety won’t really be viable!).

We could then use each other’s 43T lists to help us decide on a small gift :)

This idea is still in its infancy, so any thoughts on the best way of exchanging the gifts or an appropriate spending limit would be most welcome! :)
