In a silly showtime dance late last night, Blake says eagerly, “Can you do the splits?” “Uh, almost,” I say, and she plots out how I’ll do it out of a tuck turn (on 5and6), then she’ll do them, but I have to keep moving when she does them to help her back up. And that’s pretty much what happened. I kept my front knee bent so I could get back up, but people whooped anyway.

I really want to be able to do the splits while I’m dancing, and I got pretty darn close this weekend. Up until this weekend I only did it facing my partner, but I also tried it facing away from my partner, which is hard, becuase I have to be able to trust him to hold on and lift me back up.
Through yoga I’ve realized that my weakness with the splits is tight hamstrings. Stretching has helped a lot in my splitliness, and I’m pretty close. But I think I need to do some stretching of my hamstrings every day to make it all the way.
