I’ve spent quite a bit of time this past week working on music. I’ve decided that my CD project is going to be 15 tracks. The 4 covers and 11 originals. One of the originals is just a re-arrangement of one of my old baroque-style 2-part inventions. The other 10 are regular songs, with vocals and all: 2 that were performed and recorded by my old band and 8 that are brand spankin’ new. I have to re-learn and/or re-write the 2 songs that were done before. It’s been years since I played them, so it’s almost like learning a cover tune. The other 8 are still in various stages of completeness. One is pretty much completely written but merely needs to be recorded. I’m hoping to have the bass part done on it this evening, but we’ll see…

Okay, so I’ve been gradually working on things for the past, what?, year or more. Now I’m trying to finally put my nose to the grindstone. I have five pieces of my own music that I’m seriously working on, and another 4 cover songs. I’m hoping to have at least one of them done by this weekend, although the mixing and such might take just a bit longer than that. Anyway, I think I’m within a week or two of having this goal accomplished…

Unfortunately, I tend to be something of a slacker. That sucks. Right now, I have six songs in various stages of completion. 3 are covers, which I wouldn’t upload to GarageBand anyway, and the 3 originals are in the least stage of completion. One is drums and a bassline, and a couple of ideas for a rhythm guitar part. One is drums, bass, rhythm guitar, but no words or leads yet. The last is pretty much just a rhythm guitar sort of thing with some words, but nothing else. I really need to just get off my ass and sit down and play every day and quit going home and plunking my lazy ass down in front of the computer and wasting all evening…

Very closely related to the “find a band” goal, but I could conceivably do this even if I don’t find a band to play with. I’ll begin by recording one or both of the two bass parts I’ve been working on when I get home from work today.
