It's almost best when you're surprised... 4 years ago

I had a meeting this morning for which I had to wear a suit. I pretty much always wear my one black skirt suit whenever a suit-occasion arises.

It’s been tight for a while so I’ve been dreading wearing it whenever I’ve had to wear it.

But today, I only realised, “Hey, the skirt’s actually not tight. I’m not uncomfortable…” after my meeting. I looked at myself in the full-length mirror in the bathroom and was like, “Whoa. I look pretty good right now.” which is much better than “Whoa. I look bloated and lumpy.”

Of course, I’m still a ways away from where I want to be. But every little measurable step feels so great.

Baby steps lead to grown-up change.

Ugh! 4 years ago

Today was the first day in over 3 weeks that I took in more calories than I burned. Why does herring in cream sauce have to be so insanely delicious???

I am feeling great right now! 4 years ago

45 mins at the gym tonight—my iPod WORKING—a reasonable supper (salmon, spinach salad with tomatoes and a little parmesan cheese, some soy milk) and yeah, I’m just feeling good about it.

I am seeing myself go further on the elliptical each time, even when I stay in the heartrate range.

My goals for the week are
1) Do my 8 minutes in the morning EVERY DAY! I have been SLACKING on this last week and this is just really important to commit to. I want to make this a habit.
2) At least 45 minutes 4x this week. I’ve already done it twice. AT LEAST 2 more times. I can do that!!!
3) Eat reasonable meals and log them.

I think the skating is going to be a really good thing… knowing that I have to be fit for something, as opposed to just my own vanity, is pretty good motivation thus far!

My scale is making me crazy!!! 4 years ago

Because it gives me different readings all the time. Like on Saturday, I was getting differences of EIGHTEEN POUNDS from the morning vs the evening.

I understand weight fluctuations throughout the day, and I know I’m not a little girl, but there’s NO WAY IN HELL my daily fluctuation is that big a % of my weight. 3-5 even sounds big, but if that’s what I was seeing, sure. Not unreasonable.

I have seen a steady drop over the past few weeks but I really don’t know how reliable it is. It’s pretty frustrating!

I need to remind myself... 4 years ago

That the most important thing I can do each day is my 45 minutes on the elliptical or rollerskating or in the pool or whatever.

It’s all about priorities. I need to keep exercise on the top of my list (over social stuff, over shows, over teevee…)

OCD girl finds an ally. 4 years ago

Ok. I’m LOVING the fact that AuBonPain.com has nutrition information for EVERYTHING on their menu. EVERYTHING.

With the exception of sodium content, the soups are mostly all pretty not-too-bad (like under 250 cals for a regular-size). The salads are deadly though… Chicken Caesar BEFORE dressing is 510 cals! Isn’t that nuts?

Yesterday I had a regular size broccoli-cheddar soup and a ham and cheese croissant and those were 600 together. I know that’s not exactly diet food (high fat, really, but balanced out with better choices for breakfast and dinner), but I didn’t feel at all deprived (I mean, I’d rather have a croissant than a bagel!) and it was not a total bust.

Seriously, if you have an option to get ABP for lunch, check out their website. It’s a pretty good alternative.

FYI—This is exciting to me because I am trying to be good about my fitday.com food journal.

Ok. 4 years ago

I have more than 10 lbs to lose, but I’m focusing on babysteps (of course, to some people 10 lbs isn’t babysteps, but whatever…)

Anyways, I’m back on fitday.com and tracking my eating and exercise. In the past, seeing the pie chart really motivated me to up the calories expended from activities, as well as the weightloss algebra (in – out = deficit).

Hopefully I can stick to it this time.

I am running in an 8k this weekend, and hopefully that helps. It is amazing what nice weather can do for the spirit and the soul.

Sore, very sore. 4 years ago

I ran 3 miles on Tuesday and am still feeling the pain. It is a good pain however, and I hope to run another 3 tonight.
