I was close – so close! I actually had several books going at once, which I still intend to finish, but when the holidays got rolling I just didn’t have enough time set aside for reading. I’ll make it 30 books for 2007, and put the ones I started in 2006 on that list.

Since I got the job there and am in training, I thought it would be a good idea to read her life story to give me a little bit of an edge. What a boring book! I got some tips that’ll probably help me look like a good student in the training sessions, but other than that I wouldn’t recommend it!
This is technically a reread, but it’s been nearly 20 years since the first time so I’m counting it anyway! I guess it must have been one of his first. Far more upsetting than the more recent ones, still very good. I love his style!
Man, this goes way back to the 60’s! He was writing under a pseudonym, he must have been just a kid. Great stuff though! The man knows how to construct a thriller. This one contained a ton of medical terms and intricate detail about the practice of medicine and how hospitals work. Boring for some maybe, but I love that.
I feel so lazy reading all these fun novels! I need to squeeze in a few more textbooks before the year ends!
Not his greatest work of art, but I always love a Hiaasen novel. Stormy Weather and Lucky You remain my favorites of his. I read so many textbooks, so this is a treat!
Overall great, lots of helpful and useful information. Plenty of things I needed to know!
However, I was irritated that the training programs seem to be geared toward the idea that a 10-minute-mile is the slowest pace on earth. As someone who was quite proud to hit an 11-minute-mile (during a race!), I found this book’s recommendations to be discouraging and depressing. I far prefer John Bingham’s philosophies on running.
Not bad, all common-sense good advice that we could all use but don’t want to hear. I pretty much know where I’m going wrong, and this didn’t really help me stop it though.
One pet peeve: can every health professional on earth hereby STOP recommending that we move more by “getting up to change the channel instead of using the remote”??? Out of the 5% of the population that doesn’t get 200 channels by cable or satellite, how many people actually own a TV where changing the channel without the remote is even POSSIBLE? Even if it were, would walking those extra 8 feet a few times a day really make a huge difference in your overall fitness?
The book only mentioned that once, so it wasn’t bad. It’s just an annoying “tip” that I’ve seen way too often and it really just irks me!
An inspirational book for beginning runners, slow runners, and adult-onset athletes of all stripes. A very fast read, very pleasant, very delightful! I loved it!
A real eye-opener about industrial agriculture and production. Not TOO gross or scary, and involved some good recipes, but I must say I have renewed motivation to visit farmer’s markets like never before!!
Not his best work, too many elements that felt like reheated leftovers of The Stand. The beginning was too much gory crap right away, no suspense. The choose-your-own-ending thing was annoying too. If I wanted to write my own book, I would! I read other people’s books because they’re more creative and tell a good tale (most of the time).
I admit I did keep going back to it and wasn’t tempted at any point to just put it aside and give up. So it wasn’t as bad as I make it out to be! I’m just being too negative!
