Not doing great 2 years ago

I’m not doing great on this goal of reading the Bible daily. I think right now I might be able to claim “monthly” rather than “daily”.

I left this site for a while, but then decided to come back on different terms and so as I was going through my goals I concluded that yes this is one that I need social support on.

I had hoped for a chapter a day, but for a while now I’ve only managed 8 verses a month. I’d like to change that.

How are you all (the rest of my team members here on this goal, or anyone else reading this) doing on this? I haven’t heard from you in a while.

Take care,
Andrew

pookieb is starting another work week, as usual.

Any starting suggestions? 3 years ago

I’m one of those people who has sporadically read bits and pieces of the Bible throughout my life; I’ve made any number of attempts to read the whole thing, but I’ve never gone all the way through it the way I’d read a novel. I’ve realized that it won’t work that way for me, I get bogged down in places like the building of the tabernacle in Exodus. I’m trying to decide what to read right now, and how to choose it. Do I just open my Bible and read what’s there, do I try to find something applicable to me in some way, do I just try to listen for that ‘still, small voice’ to tell me what to read, (what if it doesn’t?) how should I choose what to read next? How do you guys choose?

100 psalms down 3 years ago

I’ve now finished reading the first 100 psalms and I feel like the more I do so, the more I get out of reading them. I pray the other members of this team that I’m on are getting as much out of their reading of the bible too.

after a long break 3 years ago

I spent the last week trying to get back into this. I started a journal to put my thoughts in as I read and I’m so happy I’m doing that. I feel like I’m getting a lot more out of it that way.

50 psalms down 3 years ago

As I’ve mentioned in other entries on this goal, I set up a special bible blog to record my readings on those days when I read them. As I describe on my first entry on that blog I decided to start with the book of Psalms.

I’ve now managed to read 50 psalms.

I do feel like I’ve gotten something out of this – as always, there is always room for improvement, but I do feel like this is being beneficial to me.

Ok, so still not entirely back on schedule 3 years ago

But I’m trying. Now I think there’s a chance that I might actually be back on schedule with this goal.

Back on schedule, I hope 3 years ago

As mentioned here I hope that I’ll now be able to be back on schedule and able to resume this after some travels and then an illness (which I am still recovring from, and which I have some backwork related to to take care of, so my activities on this site will still be limited for a while).

The bible blog has now also been added as a “feed” available via those subscribed through 43things. A reminder, you may unsubscribe to specific feeds as you see fit.

1 Cor 2:9 and Eph 3:20-21 3 years ago

1 Cor 2:9
9
But as it is written: “What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him,”

Ephesians 3:20-21
20
Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us,
21
to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Just a little sharing. Me and my friends served the homeless on Sunday and this friend of mine was robbed (he lost his textbooks, notes, and other things) after he went home from that event. Many times, we asked the question: Lord, I am a good person, why bad things happen to me? My friend can also ask the same question, after all he just came back from serving the homeless! Yet, he decided to do different thing. He praised the Lord for whatever happens in his life, bad and good, he will still praise the Lord and he prayed for those who robbed him. He shared that Christ has suffered much for us all, and yes, we all should praise Him in good or bad things. There is no Easter Sunday if there is no Good Friday. To partake in His glory means that we have to be willing to partake in His sufferings as well. And he shared that He told what happened to his professor and the professor gave him a brand new textbook, so much better than his old previous one. And my friend was pleasantly surprised and said that there is nothing impossible in the name of God, even after the robbery, the Lord provided him with brand new textbook. So God’s way is totally unexpected and He is always with us even during tough times.
What I learn is that during tough times, it is more beneficial not to ask God why this happens or get mad at Him, but ask what we should do about it. That should bring more peace of mind.
