will finally get to this over the summer hols... — 2 years ago
When my husband comes for the summer we will work on this. I already have some things done such as emergency supplies stored safely away such as lots of canned/dry goods, toilet paper, paper towels, first aid kits, etc.
My car is decently prepared with blanket, first aid kit, and fire extinguisher. Still, I know I should do a lot more. There is such a potential for things to go wrong. My newest worries are the hurricanes suspected to hit New England this summer and the pandemic that is going to break out eventually.
Mark and I hope that the hurricanes won’t be bad and we hope that the pandemic doesn’t happen till after we are living safely together. I read an article in my local paper today about the pandemic. Experts are urging community leaders to prepare us for one. The last pandemic struck in 1968 and it’s only a matter of time before the next one arrives. With the onset of avian flu in Asia and Europe escalating, the moment is ripe for an outbreak right now!
Worst-case scenario this pandemic could leave 90 million Americans sick and up to 2 million could die! The absenteeism rates at schools and workplaces could exceed 40 percent! I’ll say, I’m a teacher and if a pandemic broke out I’d just call in sick… I’d not risk my well being in that way.
Anyhow, the time is now to prepare disaster emergency plans and then some for this! I’ve found a useful site on this topic: www.pandemicflu.gov and I found a checklist on their site here:
http://www.pandemicflu.gov/planguide/checklist.html
I would urge others to follow those guidelines when developing disaster plans and survival kits.
