Should illegal immigrants be allowed to get married in the U.S.? The ACLU thinks so.  — 1 year ago

Oh boy, another privilege for illegals is being considered

IMHO, people in the U.S. illegally have no right to get married here! That would be absurd. My husband and I could never have gotten away with that so it’s very unfair for others to think they can. This whole problem of people breaking US immigration laws and trying to take advantage and skirt around the issues is ridiculous and needs to stop. If they start allowing all these exceptions to the rules it will only result in honest, law-abiding people (whom are willing to spend the money work hard to do this the legal way) being punished.

There is no fundamental right for an illegal to sneak into our country and do this and I don’t think it matters a girlfriend with child involved. There are plenty of ways they can do this the legal way. They can file for a fiancé visa and wait their damn turn like my husband and I did!

In my opinion, this is an inconvenience for which they have only themselves to blame. It’s his fault for coming here illegally and due to their immature decisions this is the penalty they must pay. My husband and I did the right thing and got married in Scotland, we didn’t try to sneak and do it in the U.S. If this couple is allowed to get away with this it will be a slap in the face to those of us who have obeyed US immigration laws.

Abortion Greeting Cards  — 1 year ago

“I think you’re strong, smart, thoughtful and caring. I believe in you and your ability to make the best decision. I think you did the right thing.”

The above is just one sample of a new line of post-abortion cards. You know, because women who have abortions are so kind, strong, and compassionate (rolling eyes in disgust)

IMHO, having an abortion is a CHOICE. Actually, there’s one who doesn’t have a choice… the unborn child.

Shocking Admission Of Lying By Government In Ramos/Compean Case  — 1 year ago

Videos and article here on this: http://www.firesociety.com/article/10263/

Under questioning by Rep. John Culberson, a Department of Homeland Security representative admitted that his department did NOT have evidence to back up a number of claims made to members of Congress last fall to bolster its case against imprisoned agents Ramos and Compean, including: that the agents “wanted to shoot a Mexican,” confessed to shooting an unarmed suspect, were belligerent to investigators, lied and submitted false reports, and stated during the investigation that the illegal alien did not pose a threat.

According to Culberson, “(DHS Inspector General) Richard Skinner admitted yesterday under oath that his top deputies gave members of Congress false information painting Border Patrol agents as rogue cops who were not in fear for their lives and who were ‘out to shoot Mexicans.”

Government lied to Congress to bolster its case

Basically, the government has admitted that its officials lied to Congress in an effort to bolster its case in the public against agents Ramos and Compean. These charges have caused many to question the validity of the agents’ claims that they are innocent and acted in response to an imminent threat from an illegal alien drug runner.

The truth is, Johnny Sutton and our govenrnment turned what is at most a procedural violation (punishable by at the most a few days unpaid leave) and made it into a witchhunt against our agents.

As Rep. Dana Rohrabacher said in a speech from the floor of the House on 2/7/07, “The initial decision to prosecue the two border patrol agents instead of the drug smugglers was indefensible, period. Sutton’s only defense… has been to lie and to demonize the two border patrol agents.”

Grassfire.org Petitions Featured on CNN and on House Floor

As this news was breaking, Grassfire.org’s Steve Elliott and Ron De Jong took part in briefings on Capitol Hill and delivered over 304,000 petitions. The petition delivery was featured on CNN’s Lou Dobbs broadcast. In addition, during a stirring speech on the floor of the House, Rep. Rohrabacher held up and prominently displayed your Grassfire petitions in a passionate plea for the President to listen to the petitions of the Americans people. Rep. Jones pleaded for the President to not ignore the voices of the American people.

Action Items

Agent Ramos Assaulted By Four Mexican Nationals In Prison...  — 1 year ago

I am outraged and posting this here as I’d hope other Republicans and US citizens in general would be outraged by this. Here’s an update on the two border patrol agents serving sentences. There has been no pardon and Agent Ramos was severely beaten in prison!

Please call, fax, write the White House regarding these agents. Also, please sign this petition asking President Bush to pardon them: http://www.grassfire.org/142/petition.asp

Agent Ramos Assaulted By Four Mexican Nationals In Prison

ORIGINALLY POSTED: 2/5/07, 6:41PM ESTUPDATED 2/6/07, 5:22 PM EST

Grassfire.org has learned that imprisoned Border Patrol agent Ignacio “Nacho” Ramos has been assaulted in prison by as many as 5 other inmates—news confirmed by three family members.

The assault occurred at 10:00pm Saturday night (2/3), apparentely following the airing of America’s Most Wanted. According to Ramos’ uncle:

“Nacho was assaulted Saturday night around 2200 by about five illegal immigrants. He has multiple and severe injuries. They put him in Isolation for now, he has not been allowed to see a doctor since Saturday. They were yelling at him in Spanish, Maten a la migra. which means kill the Border Patrol Agent.”

Another family member said Nacho was attacked after he fell asleep Saturday night. Assaulters went after him with repeated blows and kicks. Ramos suffered wounds to his back, shoulder, arms and head. There is concern that Agent Ramos was not given medical treatment after the incident and may not have received medical attention for up to 48 hours. An investigation is expected to be launched Tuesday.

This is precisely the concern Mrs. Monica Ramos expressed in her FireSociety blog entry.

“Ignatio Ramos has been wrongly convicted and now put in harm’s way in a prison known to harbor illegal alien drug runners,” said Grassfire.org President Steve Elliott. “This is beyond an outrage. Our president must take action immediately to pardon these agents.”

UPDATE 2/6—Grassfire has been in contact with the Ramos family who are still waiting for further details on the condition of Nacho Ramos and a possible investigation initiated from members of Congress. We have heard reports that the White House switchboard has been flooded with calls. Keep it up!

An illegal alien, on American soil, driving a van full of about $1 million in drugs flees from Border Patrol Agents and the agents are the ones whose lives are being ruined over it??  — 1 year ago

Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, an illegal alien, admitted felon and drug smuggler claims two Border Patrol Agents shot him in the buttocks while he was fleeing back to Mexico when caught smuggling 1 million in drugs across the border. Now, he’s suing our government… yes, that’s right us taxpayers! I call for everyone to stand up and say this is wrong. These men don’t deserve 12 years in jail, that’s more than pedos and rapists get. Something is messed up in our society when men who’ve given their lives to the government are turned on like this. Seems unbelievable but it’s really happening. This is just going to far.

Reposted from America’s Most Wanted:

February 7, 2005 was just another day of endless watching and waiting for illegal immigrants to cross the Rio Grande into the U.S. But catching illegals was a piece of cake compared to their battle against the drug cartels who are better-armed and whose foot soldiers outnumber them.

Over the last ten years or so, agents have been involved in a growing number of gun battles with drug runners on this side of the border. To say the least, the bad guys are getting more brazen and trigger-happy. So far, at least four smugglers have been killed. Our guardians of the Border have suffered no casualties. But the thought is always there: “Is this gonna be my day? Will I make it home tonight?”

Compean and Ramos may have been wondering that very thing as the events of February 7 began to unfold. The following is what occurred, according to TJ Bonner, President of the National Border Patrol Council:

Checking on a tripped sensor near the river, Agent Compean discovers footprints and drag marks—a tip off that a load of drugs has just been smuggled across the river. Spotting a vehicle leaving the scene, Compean radios its description to agents covering the road ahead. Realizing he’s been spotted, the smuggler turns around and heads back toward Compean.

According to Bonner, when the smuggler bails out of his van to make a run for the river, he fails to obey Compean’s numerous commands to stop. After a brief physical struggle, the smuggler begins running toward the river again.

When he turns and points something shiny at Compean, the agent, believing his life is in danger, opens fire. Agent Ramos, hearing gunshots, comes to Compean's aide. He too shouts for the smuggler to stop, but this man once again turns around and points at Ramos. Ramos fires one shot. He appears to miss as his target turns and dissapears into the bank of the Rio Grande.

Border Patrol agents return to the suspicious van and look wide-eyed at almost 800 pounds of marijuana, worth about a million bucks on the street. Agents seize the payload and it seems like they’ve done their jobs. But a bizarre turn of events and an apparent miscarriage of justice would soon find Ramos and Compean on the wrong side of the courtroom.

Two Border Patrol Agents seize a van full of marijuana as the smuggler flees across the border. So how did that seemingly common scenario result in the agents facing long prison terms?

According to the U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, Ramos and Compean are not heroes. In fact, charges filed against the two suggest they are in fact criminals. Thanks to an odd partnership and a series of curious decisions, Compean and Ramos face long prison sentences.

The man behind the wheel of the marijuana-packed van was Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, an illegal alien and according to The New American, an admitted felon and drug smuggler. After this encounter, according to court testimony, Aldrete-Davila’s family contacted a friend of the family, Rene Sanchez, a naturalized U.S. citizen and Border Patrol Agent, for advice. Sanchez now had to choose between his brothers-in-arms and a boyhood friend.

According to court testimony, Sanchez tutored Aldrete-Davila on getting back at Ramos and Compean, helping him get counsel and working out the best immunity deal he could.

It now fell to the U.S. Attorney, who was forced to decide which story he believed. He opted to believe Aldrete-Davila’s account of that day, not the stories of Ramos and Compean. According to his version of events, Aldrete-Davila did not have a gun and was shot while trying to escape two Border Patrol Agents whom he feared.

But according to TJ Bonner, the Army doctor who treated Aldrete-Davila (on the taxpayer’s dime), that story doesn’t hold water. According to Bonner, Aldrete-Davila’s entrance wound was on the left side of his left buttock and the bullet was found in his right side.

That entry wound is not consistent with someone fleeing. Rather, it looks like someone taking the “bladed stance,” i.e., pointing a gun at someone. The stance would come from somenone firing a gun in his left hand. Bonner says Aldrete-Davila is, in fact, left-handed.

Still, the prosecutor, described by Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas), as overzealous, continued to believe Aldrete-Davila’s scenario.

On March 8, 2006, a Federal Jury convicted the two agents of assault with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and civil rights violations. But that verdict is in question as well.

According to the National Border Patrol Council, “three of the twelve jurors later submitted sworn affidavits alleging that they had been misled into believing that there could be no dissent in the decision of the jury, and that the minority would have to accede to the will of the majority. Despite this cloud over the propriety of the process, the judge refused to overturn the verdict.”

On January 17, 2007, both former agents walked into the U.S. Marshals Service office in El Paso, Texas to begin serving their time. Aldrete-Davila, on the other hand, is now suing the U.S. government for $5 million.

This is an obvious case of he said/they said. On the one hand, there is an illegal alien, on American soil, driving a van full of about $1 million in drugs. On the other side are two experienced law enforcement officers.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office contacted an AMW producer, offering to give their side of this story. While the U.S. Attorney reiterated his stance on the issue, he never answered the question of why he sided with Aldrete-Davila instead of Compean and Ramos.

The interview also contained conflicting information. At one point, when asked why Aldrete-Davila wasn’t charged with any crime, Sutton says that because of Ramos’ and Compean’s actions, there was no evidence to charge the alleged drug smuggler. Yet, moments earlier, Sutton admitted that Aldrete-Davila’s van was found with a large quantity of marijuana.

Did Ramos and Compean make mistakes? Yes, no one can disagree on that. Should they have been punished and reprimanded for their transgressions? Again, everyone agrees that they should. But the 11 and 12 year sentences are forcing Border Patrol agents and law enforcement in general to question everything they do, at the detriment of our safety.

the wrong fight at the wrong time  — 1 year ago

This is accomplishing nothing beyond getting people pissed off on both sides of the fence. Not to say that I don’t agree with the conservative stance on most but not all issues over the liberal stance which I must admit is more in line with my views in a few areas, just that in the end it boils down to the elections.

Sean Hannity, doing his part...  — 1 year ago

Here’s some info from Wikipedia on my favourite talk show radio host, Sean Hannity.

Sean Patrick Hannity (born December 30, 1961, in New York City, New York) is an American conservative talk radio host, an executive producer of Fox News Channel’s program Hannity & Colmes, and the author of two books. Hannity is of Irish descent and a practicing Roman Catholic.

Early life

Hannity is the son of Hugh J. and Lillian F. Hannity, both children of Irish immigrants. His paternal grandparents immigrated from County Down and his maternal grandparents from County Cork. He has two sisters, Joanne S. Hannity and Therese Grisham (Hannity). He grew up in Franklin Square, New York. During the late 1980s Hannity worked in construction in the Santa Barbara, California, and also worked as a bartender.[1] He has lived in Roswell, Georgia, Athens, Alabama, Lloyd Harbor, New York, and Santa Barbara, California. He married Jill Rhodes, a columnist for The Huntsville Times, on January 9, 1993. The couple met after Jill had written a scathing column about Sean’s talk show [citation needed]. They have two children, Patrick and Merri.

Education

Hannity attended St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary in Uniondale, Long Island, New York, graduating in 1980. He dropped out of New York University to pursue his radio career.[1] He has received honorary doctorates from Liberty University (2005)[2] and Southeastern University of Lakeland, Florida (2006).[3]

Current professional life

Sean Hannity is currently a nationally syndicated radio talk show host broadcasting out of WABC radio studios in New York and co-host of the Fox News political debate program, Hannity & Colmes. He is also the spokesman for the automaker General Motors.

Radio

Further information: The Sean Hannity Show
Though no longer enrolled as a student or involved with WNYU (New York University’s radio station), Hannity placed an ad in radio publications presenting himself as “the most talked about college radio host in America,” and WVNN in Huntsville, Alabama hired him to be the afternoon talk show host.[4] He worked at WGST in Atlanta filling the slot vacated by Neal Boortz who had moved to competing station WSB. In September of 1996 Roger Ailes, founder of the Fox News Channel, hired the relatively unknown Hannity to co-host the television program Hannity & Colmes with Alan Colmes.

Hannity’s radio program is a conservative political talk show focusing on current issues and politicians. The show is frequently critical of, and has drawn criticism from, the Democratic Party. David Wade, a John Kerry spokesman, said during the 2004 Presidential election regarding the term carpet-bombing, “If the term hasn’t found its way into print, its distortions certainly have. From Rush Limbaugh to Sean Hannity to Laura Ingraham to Saxby Chambliss to the R.N.C., you can’t turn on a TV or pick up a radio without seeing a systematic and coordinated attack on John Kerry.”[5] Hannity also draws praise from conservative politicians: “He has a great personality, and the tone counts for a lot,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn. “He’s willing to ask questions and challenge the assumptions that many in the mainstream news media are not.”[6]

The Sean Hannity Show began national syndication September 10, 2001 on over 500 stations nationwide. The program, heard by over 13 million listeners a week,[7] has the second-largest radio audience in the country. NewsMax.com Magazine’s “Top 25 Talk Radio Host” list selected Hannity as the fifth most influential host in the nation.[8] In 2004, Hannity signed a $25 million 5-year contract extension with ABC Radio to continue the show through 2009.[9] The program was made available via Armed Forces Radio Network in 2006.

Television

Hannity is executive producer of Hannity & Colmes, an American political debate television program on the Fox News Channel featuring conservative Hannity and liberal Alan Colmes as co-hosts. Hannity has had on-air clashes with guests of the program. On August 25, 2006 he had a heated discussion with Laura Costas of Code Pink, an anti-war women’s group, on an event Code Pink held in front of Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Hannity called it a protest attacking wounded veterans to make a political statement, Costas said it was vigil for increased compensation for veterans.[10] Hannity also hosts his own Sunday show on Fox News Channel called “Hannity’s America”.

Freedom Concert

Since 2003 Hannity has hosted the annual Freedom Concert, featuring conservative speakers and guests, at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. In 2006, a second Freedom Concert was added in San Diego. The event provides full college scholarships for children of fallen U.S. military servicemen, and promotes Reaganite conservatism with speakers and guests such as Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh (brother of Rush Limbaugh), Mark Levin and Rick & Bubba, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, former Congressman Tom DeLay, and TV personality Susan Lucci.[11] In the weeks leading up to the event he provides some callers with tickets to the concert.

Film

In the 2005 documentary film This Divided State, Hannity is shown speaking to the students of Utah Valley State College and members of the surrounding community. He had been invited to speak on campus to balance the liberal filmmaker Michael Moore who had been invited to speak on campus two weeks before the 2004 presidential election. Hannity also appeared as a newscaster in the 1998 thriller The Siege.

Hannidate

Since 2005, Hannity has run a dating service on his website, called “Hannidate,” matching conservative or Republican-leaning singles. The stated purpose of Hannidate is to create a “place where people of like conservative minds can come together to meet.”12

Controversy and criticism

Over the years, some individuals and organizations have been critical of some of Hannity’s espoused political beliefs and activities:

Liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America has been consistently critical of remarks Sean Hannity has made on his television and radio shows.[14]
Frank Rich, in a New York Times editorial, criticized Hannity and Dick Morris for using the American flag on their book covers saying they “use the Stars and Stripes as a merchandising tool for their own self-aggrandizingly patriotic screeds cashing in on their TV celebrity.”[15]

As I have military members in my family and have friends with husbands in the military I take great offence to your pictures of “WHITE military men being torn up”, which you posted for shock value I presume. You have NO RIGHT to be using their pictures in that manner. That’s something a terrorist would do. Seriously, what are you thinking? Show some respect. These are brave and honorable men and women that have given their life or been injured in the line of duty fighting for YOUR freedoms.

I also notice that you had to stress the word WHITE as I suppose you are assuming I’m racist. I’m sure you can see from my pictures that I’m very pale but that does not mean I’m racist… there are a lot of religious right whites that aren’t so please do not stereotype us. I was planning on responding to a few of your posts but I see you’ve blocked me so I cannot respond. Therefore, all your posts on these threads will be deleted. I’m not going to keep your dribble on here when you aren’t even willing to let me even give a response!
