But checked out an “Astronomy for Dummies” book, and another title, and have a constellation map for September from the nature center. Have yet to make it to the local observatory, maybe this month?
.. and another series of constellation discoveries. Over the last few days I viewed Lyra, Cygbus, and Aquila. All three contain the brightest starts in the August night skies, so are the are fairly easy to spot. I also learned that August is the best month for viewing shooting stars and I saw several during my star gazing.
Thanks to a great book called 365 starry nights. It gives you one small section of the sky to study every day for a month. Using July’s map, I found Hercules (or at least the keystone), the Corona Borealis, Saggitarius (the Teapot), and Scorpius. It was a very exciting night for me as it has been a lifelong dream of mine to find the constelations, and I’m finally doing it!
Hopefully I will be able to recognize a few constellations. I plan on stopping at the library and picking up a book or two to help me navigate the night sky.

the constellations and stars. I was away at a Tai Ji retreat and we discussed the relevance of the stars, and I’d go out at night, and see so many stars, and it was even hard to pin-point the big and little dippers, among them. I’d like to learn how they move, where to expectcertain planets, constellations, etc.
I need to get on this!

And they have open meetings at the end of the month, guess I need to find out when that is!
I’ve been meaning to get “Astronomy for Dummies.” I haven’t seen one at the local library, maybe need to one of the bigger branches.
He’s signing up for their summer reading program, That’ll be a good time to kill another goal, start using the library, and then I’ll check out a book on constellations. Can’t wait to get lost in the night sky!
