see concerts of all the musicians I'm a fan of

Wow, I have to say that Fox Elipsus is the most awesome musician I’ve encountered. In an era where egos often have their own entourage, cable tv show, and recording contract, this man is a prince in his humility and humanity.

As of this date, he is currently touring the country and giving free shows at various bookstores and coffee shops in an effort to spread the message of peace through his music.

I first met Fox at a cafe in Fells Point called The Daily Grind. I was actually the only person who initially showed up for the concert but that didn’t deter him. He gave the performance his all and was perfectly gracious and wonderfully entertaining the entire time. He even went so far as to give me one of his CDs.

There are a lot of things he could have done in that situation. He could have been rude, he could have canceled, or been derogatory but instead, he was a consummate professional and absolutely charming human being.

For that, he can definitely count me as one of his fans.

Taped concerts count, especially when the frontman and better vocalist kind of sort of dies just under two decades before the actual viewing of said.

All in all, it was pretty fantastic, even if obviously chopped up by the PBS Beg-a-thon machine. At least it’s buyable and, once I have finishing my “no buying frivolous stuff for a year” goal, I’ll be able to get it.

I’m going to let this count but it makes me feel old. I have living memories of The Clash in concert. Seeing them on PBS wounds my pride.

Age really does bite you in the behind eventually. I’m not down.

I’ve yet to see a live show but I have gotten my hands on a copy of a concert he did a few years ago.

I’m still too jazzed up to even look at it properly and its going to take a bit for me to come down from the clouds enough to appreciate it in the way I’d like to.

Though, I guess it I counted “seeing” artists as far as DVDs were concerned, then I’ve already “seen Cheb Mami, Rachid Taha, Khaled, and Faudel among many others.

Next up on my list are The Cliks. ‘Nuff said.

I spent the best three hours I’ve had in a while at the 8×10 club watching Alejandro Escovedo and the String Quintet bringing the house down with the most awesome music I’ve heard.

I thought my ‘concert virginity’ had been broken with Tori Amos but now that doesn’t even count in my mind. I am still reeling from the gushing power of the music I experienced, the heady rhythms, the driving melodies, and the overall wit and humor of the musicians on stage. It was truly a great experience I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

I just wish I could see the other upcoming shows they’re having in this area, but alas, I haven’t the funds.

I did manage to get autographs, which is cheesy I know, so at least I have a memento of some kind aside from the great memories.

One musician down, so many to go.

I’m honestly numb right now. Normally things like this don’t work out for me as well but I have the ticket for the upcoming Alejandro Escovedo concert and I’m looking forward to it. It looks like the wacky woman with the weird eyebrows is going after all. :-)

I should probably take it out of my bag to prevent it getting lost or fiddled with somehow but I’m still in disbelief that I actually have it and I’m afraid to look in there only to find out that it was all just an illusion.

The 8×10 wasn’t hard to find either and, with the kind help of someone who knew the neighborhood, it was a simple walk of a block and a half through Federal Hill in Baltimore City.

I just hope that formal attire is not required…I hate dressing up. :-(

Anyone know about the 8×10?

I am so not believing my luck in somehow coming across this. I’ve been a fan of Alejandro Escovedos music for a while now. He’s coming here to Baltimore City (HUH?!?) at the 8×10 Club on the first of December. Unlike with most concerts I’d like to see, I’m actually going to have the spendable cash to see him. This is assuming I don’t get hit by an Acme Anvil in the time between now and then.

I think I’m going to do some respectable passing out as opposed to girlish fainting.

A part of me wants to invite two of my friends to come with me but one is a total music snob and thinks that he knows everything there is to know about music while trying to make me out to be a complete idiot about anything just because he’s nine years and some months older. The other friend is a class snob and seems to think I’m not capable of much more than the most simple tasks without his meticulous assistance. So, unless someone is interested, I’m going by my lonesome.

I finally have an Idir album (Identités). I feel happy now. :-)

Now, if I could just happen to catch a concert within a fifty mile radius of my current location…

I can’t remember most of it but I do remember that I was at an Idir concert where all the other musicians I’m a fan of were the preceeding acts. All of them were singing tribute to him before he came on the stage and appropriately rocked the house.

Sadly, I was woken up early from this rather pleasant dream but it’s only renewed my vigor in acheiving this goal for myself.
