Health: Lose Weight (read all 2 entries…)
update 5 months ago

I am inspired by Jenni to write about my weight loss again. I update people I know on Facebook with my progress, and it’s been slow but steady for the most part.

To date, I have lost 38 lbs and have gone from a size 16 to approximately a 6 (although the 6 pants that I’m wearing today seem a little big). I have about 10 more lbs that I want to lose but have seemed to have hit a plateau. I have had a lot of personal stress lately with my husband’s deployment and a death of one of Mike’s friends…so stress eating crept back in.

I still attend WW meetings, although I have stopped tracking what I eat. I generally keep track of rough point values and how many snacks I can enjoy after I put Alex to bed (100 calorie snack-pack or just an apple). Most of my caloric intake is after lunch. I don’t eat breakfast, usually opting for the caffeine on an empty stomach to get me going.

I walk a lot these days, and after 5 pm, I usually am running after my two year old. It has done me a lot of good to wear a pedometer to track just how much I am walking/running. I found that I walk between 10-15k steps a day, which is 5-7.5 miles. I highly recommend when trying to incorporate exercise into a busy schedule to work in additional amounts of walking. I now park further away from my lab, for instance. I volunteer to pick up supplies for others in the lab in between experiments.

So all in all, I have had success with WW. I still have some work to go, but I know how to get there. It’s tough right now since I have had success and can keep it off without much trouble to actually be motivated to lose the rest since I feel/look good now. I just have to keep reminding myself that 1) while I have lost all of this weight, I am still overweight and 2) that I will look even SEXIER without these last 10 lbs.

And that's how it goes 5 months ago

I used to hate it when people said they didn’t have time to work out. Not that I had been a great example, but I figured, if you really want to do it, you will.
I started counting calories, I though if I could eat the calories to lose a pound a week, I would be at my ideal weight in about two months. Not that I had any illusions that I wold actually lose 1 lb/week.
It is hard. Dieting is hard. I don’t eat very many calories in general, and shrinking that to 1400 was really difficult. I used an iPod app called Lose It!. It was a pretty good app, it had many foods already listed (you can track calories as well as many nutrients, I didn’t work on the nutrients), as well as how many calories your body would burn given the type, intensity and length of time you work out.
I started in the middle of April and after less than two months, I hadn’t lost any weight. I know that is not very long, but I personally think I would do better to actually eat another 200 calorie and then burn them with some type of aerobic exercise. Although I have been bicycling, it really didn’t burn very many calories and I still didn’t lose any weight. Actually, my yoga didn’t help with that much, either.
So, I sort of gave up for the last few weeks. I am still trying to cycle, it is very hot outside, though.
I don’t know if a diet is going to help me much. I think I should keep trying, though. Even though my stomach is still not fitting into anything comfortably and I am embarrassed to wear almost anything. I just don’t know why this is so hard. I don’t need to lose much weight. I would be happy with 10 lbs.
I am going to start bringing my gym shoes to work so I can use the elliptical over at the rec center. In all my “free” time. So, I guess that is where my opening paragraph was going. I don’t feel as if I have any “free” time. It has been eaten alive by graduate school. I am constantly exhausted, and my neck and shoulders refuse to be of any use to me and only pain me all the day long. If I take anything for it, I get more drowsy. So that is why I tired yoga, but I haven’t the time for it. Grumble, what an annoying circle.

Counting Calories 6 months ago

So, I found (actually, I was directed to it) an iPod App for this that is helping me keep track of calories in, calories out and my weight. I haven’t exercised nearly as much as I should. I am hoping that, if I stay within my limit for the week (some days over, some days under), it will work. Although, it has been a week and a half and it hasn’t yet. I realize I just have to keep doing it. So, I am going to start cycling and doing more yoga. I took a class this semester, and I think that taught me a lot (didn’t lose any weight, though).

Learning ... 20 months ago

Hi all, I am new to this, and pretty new to actually consciously thinking about weight loss every day.
I was vaguely counting my calories for a few weeks and I think I underestimated what I was intaking. Mostly because I would have a snack at night and not count that because I was too tired to think anymore. So that did not work. I now think I can have about 1500-1700 calories per day and lose weight. I was reading someone’s blog about how he was down to about 1000 cals/day and the thought of that truly scares me. I love food, absolutely adore it. However, it seems too easy to attribute my poor eating habits to my lifestyle and how rarely I am at home (except when I am there because I feel unhealthy). So, enough with the excuses. I am going to continue to work on exercises with my physical therapist. I think I will also go to the pool at the gym because the orthopedic nurse suggested I walk laps there. Firstly, however, I have to buy a one-piece bathing suit. :/

started 3 weeks ago 21 months ago

So I started WW 3 weeks ago. I’ve lost around 6-7 lbs already. Mostly water weight, I think – but I’ll take what I can get. My pants are already fitting better and when I ran up 2 flights of stairs this AM, I totally didn’t get winded! I’m amazed that I already am starting to feel the effects.

I guess why I am here is to get some addition external support. Sometimes I don’t feel like the people at WW are all that supportive. My husband says that he is proud of me in my endeavor, but then goes and gets really greasy food and eats it in front of me or drinks a huge thing of alcohol. I need to learn how to not have that effect me.

Losing Weight? 2 years ago

I had managed to lose just over half a stone before my operation – not of course I have been comfort eating and not moving around much over the last couple of months. Now however I am backat the gym and went 3 times this week – 3 times swimming and twice in the gym. Following on from my 10 minute on the bikes on Wednesday I managed a repeat performance yesterday PLUS 5 minutes on the cross trainer.

My choice of machines is governed by wanting no impact so no walking and running – but a smooth strength building exercise which I think the bike and the cross trainer give me. I then do my usual swim routine followed by a couple of lemgths walking up and down the pool.

Being ill was a good start! 2 years ago

I was off work Monday and Tuesday last week and only ate dry Chrunchy Nut Cornflakes. Since then my appetite is back, but much much smaller which has meant I’ve lost weight and fat. Yesterday I weighed 69.0kg and was 29% fat.

Oh dear 2 years ago

I’ve put some new batteries in the scales and have weighed myself for the first time in months. I weigh 70.3kg (and 31%fat). This is more than I weighed when I started losing weight for my wedding – hmm not good.

Probably what is worse is that DH has told me this evening that he now weighs over a kilo lighter than me!

Back to the diet.... 3 years ago

I started Slimming World 8 weeks ago and have lost a total of 4.5lb. Not a huge amount but I’ve gone down from 10.7 to 10.2.5 – I was surprised I’d lost the 1lb I put on last week plus an extra 1/2lb! So on average losing half pound per week. Doing it via Slimming world online – can’t count calories or weigh everything so this is the easiest way for me to lost weight. I’m also walking more which I’m sure helps!

I have good reasons for wanting to lose weight this time – I aim to get down to 9st 7lbs before the Charleston BC Convention in April! It’s also my eldest son’s wedding in August!

Going down again 3 years ago

My weight had started going up again this year & when I finally decided to do something about it, I was at the heaviest I’ve ever been, bar pregnancy.

I’ve been going to Slimming World & have lost half a stone so far :)
