Today I managed to cut the remainder of the squares for each quilt. Then I cut majority of the triangles, and half squares from the regular squares for just one of the quilts. Didn’t realize there was so much cutting to do! Taking tomorrow and Monday off. Hope to get right back to it on Tuesday. That’s if hubby allows me to since we are remodeling the living room…one of my 43 things I have started on.

No Cursing yet! 2 years ago

Who ever came up with the rotary cutter…Kudos to them! This thing is an amazing tool for cutting the squares. Word to the wise though, make sure you have something you can use as a cutting guide that you can’t shave off with the blade. I started off using the edge of a book, which now is minus the binding in spots. Oh well, live and learn. I switched over to, of all things, a tempered glass kitchen cutting board. It is transparent, lightweight and won’t snag the material. So far so good. In a few hours I ironed the material, squared it up, cut the salvage off and cut 118 squares. I even impressed myself! Tonight I hope to get about 80 more squares cut, and clean up the mess I made on the kitchen table and floor. Who knows, we shall see what tonight brings.

Fabrics & Notions 2 years ago

Purchased all my materials for two quilts today. I have twin daughters that will be 21 in 6 months…Lord I pray that is enough time!...and would love to give them a personalized gift that was made with love. I stood there looking at all the wonderful colors, patterns, and decided on purples of different hues, and for the other blues of muted tones with cream for the other. Decided to splurge and get a fiskers rotary cutter and a mat board for cutting my own squares instead of using ebays precut squares. I figure if I am going to make it with love, I will do it all myself. For now it is off to the kitchen table to begin this journey that I hope to finish in time. (I may be back here in an hour cursing the project I have selected! LOL) The design I decided on can be viewed at this website http://www.quilterscache.com/D_F/FarmFriendlinessBlock.html

Planning Phase 2 years ago

So far I have found a few quilting sites for info. The best one so far that gives you just about all the information you need as a beginner is http://www.quilterscache.com/index.html I have decided to order precut quilting squares from E-Bay and save myself the headache of cutting, sizing, and making sure they are perfectly square. They are very reasonably priced even with the shipping fee. Today I will make up my mind on what pattern to choose. I never knew there were hundreds of patterns…so many…so pretty..so darn hard to choose.
