Lose 50 pounds

StillThinking has written 9 entries about this goal

Long time update 1 year ago

It’s been a while since I first set this as my goal.. and since then I’ve done a lot of things to try to reach it, but it was fruitless for quite a while.. well, about 8 months ago I finally started excercising regularly, monitoring my calories, and eating natural foods. Now I’m down 34 pounds. Only 16 to go!

If you’re thinking of doing this but aren’t sure, do it. You’ll be so happy that you’ve lost the weight, even if it takes a while.

Easier than most might think 1 year ago

So I haven’t written an entry here @ 43 things for a long time. Since them, I’ve changed diets a few times, had my 15th bday, and up until a couple months ago was getting nowhere. Then I realized just how easy it really can be to lose weight.

I was getting desperate, and I wasn’t sure what would work. I had lately been trying to just eat healthy foods, and cut down on bad foods. But in the end I decided to just try calorie counting. And once I started doing it I was surprised at how much I would eat sometimes while thinking I ate much less. Once you form a habit of it, it’s not too hard.. and you can have any food you want, be it mcdonalds or carrots, as long as your daily calorie budget allowance. So far, I’ve lost 18 lbs in 3.5 months. If it sounds slow, you’d be surprised how quick it’s gone.

All you have to do is this.
1: calculate your BMR. This is the amount of calories you burn sleeping for 24 hours. There is a calculator at: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
2: once you have your bmr, go to http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/
and do the math it tells you. You’ll now roughly know your daily calorie usage.
3: Subtract around 500 from your daily calorie usage, you now have the amount of calories you will eat every day to lose 1 guaranteed pound every week.

Then just do it, check the labels on everything you eat. If you have a 300 calorie bagel for breakfast and your daily calories are 1700, then tell yourself I have 1400 left. Plan your meals to fit into there if you can. If you have a big 1,000 calorie lunch, go light on your dinner. Get into the habbit of adding everything to your daily calorie usage, and it really becomes easier than most would think to safely lose weight.. without damaging your metabolism.

(PS, if you do extra work out above your set daily activity multiplier, add the calories burned to your calorie consumption total for that day. But the good thing abotu small calorie deficits are that you don’t need to work out to lose weight, as long as you maintain your calorie intake).

I hope this has helped everyone, and good luck on your goals. I’m currently at 187 and headed for 153!

Need to get back to it 2 years ago

I havent been sticking to my diet so well lately and I’ve gained back 2 pounds.. I need to stay serious about this. I’m starting the GM diet pretty soon and this time I hopefully will do it without interruption. Can’t wait to finish 1 week of it.

Gm interrupted.. PLans for later 2 years ago

Well Due to family plans I didn’t know about I wasn’t able to finish the GM diet last week, I only got 1.5 days in. I’m going to try it again next week.

Meanwhile, overall I’m down 5 pounds. It’s not amazing, but I’m just glad it’s something. It’s been made twice as hard because of my dad trying to tell me how he thinks I should do it, He really gets on mr nerves because he isn’t helping me, everything he says is negative. Even if I’m completely tired and have already worked out he forces me to go to the rec center when I don’t need to, and I basically sit there and wait a full half hour then leave. I can’t wait till I’m on my own.. heh..

1st day of GM diet 2 years ago

I’m just writing this after doing the 1st day of the GM diet today. And boy do I want anything other than watermelon! heh. It’s pretty tough in that it’s so strict. Tomorrow is all vegetables.

But, I’m just trying to think about the end result. I’m sure I will have a pig out meal once this week is over.

In my weigh-in before I started the diet I was at 192, which is where I was last week. I have been noticing various things that show that I’m on the right track though. Although I have been more tired when dieting it seems.

Couple weeks now I believe 2 years ago

And I haven’t seen a huge weight change.. Although my scale is pretty inaccurate, in every weigh in it can change randomly by up to 3 lbs. But Im getting a lower avg. by a couple pounds so I’ll go with that. I have been eating too few calories lately actually, because I have been falling asleep in the afternoons and ended up missing dinner. I’m trying to stay awake but I just don’t know why I’ve been more tired since I started on my diet changes. Most days lately I’ve been having something around 600-1100 calories.. I’m thinking about 1500 a day should be appropriate for me. I was going to do the GM diet this week but didn’t have the stuff and will do it next week. Hope that goes well.

4 days in.. 2 years ago

I’m 4 days in now, and so far im -2 lbs. of my starting weight. 192 now. my weights been going between 193-196 for quite a while so this is good to get out of that barrier. I probly get lucky on this goal since I’m still relatively young. I’m not having too much trouble with cravings.. there are some times though that I just really want a cheeseburger or a pop heh. It looks like so far so good though. I’ll probly try out that GM diet that’s been discussed here next week.

On the right track 2 years ago

Well, I’ve set up my basic outline for doing this, basically No sugary drinks except when eating out or something (soda, fruit drinks etc) and mainly just water to drink.. 6 small meals a day, no frozen foods, no junk food. Also going to get 30 mins of excercise, and once I get new arch supports I’ll try running. Yesterday I played soccer and went for too long, had a half a mile walk back to the house and now today I can hardly use my feet (I have a disease that makes it hard for me to run for too long, seavers disease). But I’ll just do floor excercises today. I really can’t wait to finally get this weight off!

Day 1.. 2 years ago

Well today has been day 1 for me and already i’ve messed up! I haven’t eaten anything i shouldn’t have or anything but I fell asleep and woke up at 2 a.m. So today i’l just have 3 meals instead of 6. Also only having water. My starting weight is 194 (x.x) and yeah, I can’t wait to get going on this!
