I really need to work on this. Today I ate a banana, but I cannot tell what happened between starting to peel the banana and the skin hitting the bottom of the bin.

Carrot cake. 1 year ago

This week I ate a piece of carrot cake. It had walnuts in it. I was very aware of the flavour of the nuts.

Discretion. 1 year ago

I realized today that food can be eaten as if it might be distasteful. It makes one really taste the food and not just try to get into the gullet as fast as possible.

From an evolutionary perspective, that’s what taste was developed for, to distinguish between toxins and nutrients, and not just to be a gratifier. So this approach to eating could perhaps be easier on the mind too.

Why I need this goal 2 years ago

This week I went to have coffee with a friend, and I ordered a flavoured cappuchino. Unfortunately I never noticed the flavour, because I did not pay attention to it.

Filling. 2 years ago

I’ve had this feeling a very few times: Getting to the end of a bite of food, having really enjoyed it, and being surprised that there’s still a lot left in the plate. This is what I’m aiming for.

Fractional 2 years ago

I can actually do this! But only for a few seconds at a time, and then my mind races away again.

Savouring 2 years ago

Tristan inspired me to adopt this goal. It seems like an admirable, simple, practical way to get more connected to the world, in addition to helping me to eat less.
