This goal is on hiatus 1 year ago

For really good reasons that I can’t give right now. But the thing you’re thinking is probably right.

Grim Post-Christmas Determination 2 years ago

After the food coma that was the holidays, I am feeling quite determined to keep to a healthy diet. Moo.

Someday I will lose weight 2 years ago

I bet it will be when I’m not cold all the time. We’re keeping the thermostat low to save money, and I’m freaking freezing. Being cold makes me want to eat and sleep all the time. My office is awful, too; we’ve several menopausal women who make sure it’s about 55 degrees (F) in there year-round.

Ow. 2 years ago

On Friday we got plastered with a bunch of heavy wet snow, of which I had to shovel a considerable pile. Guess what? My core muscles have gone to hell in a handbasket, as I discovered while I was struggling with the snow, and afterwards when my back was kicking me for not having any abdominal muscles to speak of to help out with the work. I had never really thought of them being especially weak, but I guess over the past several months they have become so.

Anyway, acting on advice from Maggie and Calypte, and from my limited experience with Pilates, I checked out a Pilates DVD from the library. Ha! I need to return it and check out a disc that’s geared more towards beginners. Some of the exercises I could do OK, but many of them just left me sprawled on the floor, giggling helplessly. Also, the Dog was highly intrigued by the fact that I was playing funny games on a comfy mat on the floor and wanted to get involved, which didn’t help at all.

Perhaps I will stick to more basic crunches and things until I get some degree of strength back.

P.the Dog and I did go for a great big long walk in the snow today, which was satisfyingly tiring.

True Statement of the day: 2 years ago

Yep, it sure does. At least.
Well, I didn’t do a full bout of stepping, since I slept through my alarm; the best I managed was five minutes just so I could say I did, and then walking to work and back and then back and forth again for my class. I had hoped to take a break and walk a little during the day, but as the saying goes . . . 1 F feels like 1 F.

I’ll do better.

Well, I’ll start (or restart) with 15 anyway . . . I could comfortably tack another 10 onto that. I was just looking through some pictures from this summer and saw one full-length of me that really unnerved me . . . I think it was shot from a kind of odd angle, but oh my GOD, am I really that much of a lumpy troll? Anyway, what with the holidays and the enormous disincentive to go outside and do things (it’s cold! COLD, I say! Really cold! And it’s just gonna get colder . . .) I have tacked on five pounds to my summer weight, and I say: enough’s enough. I went out this evening and bought some sweetish teas to help with the evening sugar cravings, I’m trying to make fruits and veggies half of every meal, and . . . somehow . . . I will exercise. I can’t afford the gym, and don’t have room for any apparatus in my apartment. Nor do I want to do any sort of stationary jumping-up-and-down exercises that will make my downstairs neighbors hate me, and possibly cave in their ceiling (not from the weight . . . just from this building being old and decrepit). And I will try to get out there despite the cold . . . but does anyone have any suggestions for non-gym, non-bulky-apparatus, non-ceiling-caving at-home exercises that will actually be worth their time?

Sara changed the goal 2 years ago

This goal no longer says “Lose 15lbs. by Halloween.” heh! I’m still going for it, though. I gained a pound this week, but I only need to lose it and one more by next Monday to hit the original goal. Cheer me on!! :-D

family support 2 years ago

ok, so this really isn’t happening right now. It seems that I have hit what they call The Plateau and it is no longer easy. And it has been raining day after day after day after DAY here (mudslides! missing people! collapsed houses, roads, bridges, etc! but they say it should all be better soon) so between that & work, exercise just hasn’t been happening.

I was visiting home with the folks today & challenged mom & dad to lose as well. Dad really needs to; his doctor has told him he’s borderline diabetic (? . . . not sure what that means exactly). So we all get prizes if we lose 15. Dad & I want iPods; mom wants a new pair of slippers, sweet woman.

Anyway, I’m afraid it just ain’t going to happen by Halloween, since my progress has been nil; furthermore, I have been doing quite well with this goal, so that has had its negative effects as well (though mild . . . let’s just say I can’t be left alone with a bag of licorice, gumdrops, etc). I have to redouble my efforts. Veggies & rice ahoy.
