Wow, having a roommate that consumes a lot of meat is awful. I have to smell the cooking meat and it makes me want to puke. It just hurts to know that she’s bringing this into our house. And when I say something about what she’s supporting she replies by saying something like, “Oh well, that’s sad. I’d just rather not think of it that way. I just like the way it tastes.” It’s so frustrating!

I came across this really beautiful and amazing story. If you have the time, please read it. (it’s a true story)

I used to wonder about that a lot. Being vegetarian really does make a difference, and the more people that become vegetarian will help this cause. I think I read once that each vegetarian saves around 15 animals a year because of supply and demand. The fewer people that demand meat, the less they are going to produce, hence fewer animals knee deep in their own excrement (not to mention, in many factories, getting brutally slaughtered).
Here are some other ways in which it helps:
If Americans reduced their beef consumption by 10%, that would free up enough grain to feed 60 million people (and think of all those starving people in the world while we here in America are enjoying our wasteful, unnecessary meat and huge amounts of it).
Every pound of beef represents 220 acres of rainforest clear cut to raise cattle?
And….. it takes seven pounds of grain which require 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef.

I think you’re getting the picture. Well, I could go on and on about how good it is to be vegetarian, for ethical reasons, health reasons, and environmental reasons. So, don’t give it up!
