wakeboarding 2 years ago

Last Sunday I’ve been wakeboarding. Besides being a lot of fun, this is the best abdominal exercise I have ever done. In the first try I fell into the water right after the start, the second time I almost made one round, and 3rd time I did two complete rounds without a fall. I did not think I would learn it that quickly, it sure helps when you are used to a snowboard :-) Its amazing how fast you can get on the water: At my 2nd fall I flew about 5 meters far. Now I know why all the professionals wear helmets!

Korea Garden 2 years ago

My new thing of the week?
I went to my first happy hour with the work folks

Went to Korea Garden. A drug rep foot the bill so we all went crazy with our sushi ordering. We ordered everything and passed it down. I’ve never had sushi with kiwi before or mango. Delicious! I can’t wait to go back. We ate and ate and drank and drank. The work folks got really rowdy which made me giggle. They’re PAs and doctors! I felt bad for the couples trying to have a romantic dinner.

Also, bought a new playground/internet domain with my Boston friend.

Old Alligator Grill, San Diego, worst sushi ever 2 years ago

Last week, I went and had dinner at Old Alligator Grill for the first time with Cindy and her pharmacy gang. The 50 cent oysters are alright? company GRAND. The most noteworthy thing about the resturant, it was featured/filmed in Office Space.

Thennn.. 2 days later I hopped on over to California. Was only there for a day and a half but managed to squeeze in walks on Mission Beach, cheesy souvenir shopping at Seaport Village, and the worst sushi I’ve ever had at Sushi Itto in the Gaslamp district? Gaslamp village? I did coerce my supervisor to do something new and try eel. Let’s just say she’s not my biggest fan right now :).

All in all, San Diego was beautiful. I don’t think I could ever live there. It’s almost too laid back. I need more of a hustle in my cities.

I must come back to go visit the zoo.

Crockwell Butterfly Center, John Creamer show, etc 2 years ago

Fun times this weekend. I went to Houston to see the parents for Asian New Year. Met up with some friends.

Went to Crockwell Butterfly Center. Have been meaning to go for years. The evil ex would keep pushing it on me but I always refused him because it was something big he and his ex before me shared. Good call :) Went with my lovely Cindy and her boyfriend. I fell in love with the Ricepaper butterfly. I think it’s because I have a thing for black and white at present. What a therapeutic place to hang out.

Also went to a House event. I don’t really listen to House but my old college roommate really wanted to share the experience with me/make me give it a second chance. Creamer, a NYC dj had a show in Houston this weekend so I bought tickets and joined her and nother highschool/college buddy (we went to highschool and college together). I didn’t mind… we partied like rock stars… blood, ripped jeans, and incriminating photos. yikes.

Oh, old roomie and I made out. First time with a girl. She warned me before the night was over that she would try with me.

youthful nonalcoholic new joys 2 years ago

Last week’s new thing was a restaurant I’ve been meaning to try since July 06. Mandola’s. An Italian Market/Restaurant. Mmm. The Eggplant Parmesan was delicious. I think I found a new restaurant to frequent. It was an interesting night. A friend from high school called me up for dinner. It was the first time we’ve seen each other since high school and it’s now almost been a full 10 years. Mandola’s happened to be her favorite restaurant. Ate and caught up for a good 3 hours. It fascinates me when people can still relate after so long of no communication.

This past week’s new things: I had a Valentine’s date with my younger brother. We went to Build-A-Bear (neither of us have been) and we made each other expensive stuffed animals. He made me a pink bear dressed as a tennis player.. complete with visor :) My brother is adorable. I made him a Karate Monkey with Superman pajamas.

I had two different friends come in to visit me this weekend and spent the day doing things they haven’t done before. They also found new friends in each other. We went to the state capitol since Thomas hadn’t ever been. Sad since he was born and raised in Texas and lived in Austin for 5 years. We were driving home through downtown after antiquing (a new thing for Alex- and also where I found a pink phone) when Thomas said, “I’ve never been to the capitol”. Inspired, I insisted we go instantly. At 7pm on a Saturday night. So we pulled over and not only went onto the lawn, but walked inside as well. Took cute pictures and climbed all the stairs and tried all the locked doors despite signs indicating that they were closed. I had forgotten how beautiful the building is. We tried to remember/guess all the historical figures immortalized through paintings and sculptures before reading the signs.

Also that same night, Thomas left us and I invited a whole bunch of girls over. We had happy meals for dinner and then prank called our friends. My idea of course. I had never indulged in such adolescent joys as an actual adolescent. Our calls were elaborate and the 2 male victims were duly impressed after we assured them that we weren’t who were claiming to be. I think Thomas was glad he didn’t stay for this.

post secret 2 years ago

I had a splendid date yesterday with one of my favorite girls and another sweetheart of a girl. It really was a GREAT date-date. We went to Post Secret’s book signing. It was a very fun and interesting book signing. I’ve only been to two (Went to Amy Tan’s signing when I was 17) and both of them were very interesting. I always thought going to a boring signing is a thing to be feared.

So Frank Warren is a sweet guy. He comes off as a dorky genuinely sweet guy. He opened with several of his favorite secrets. One of them was, “I found my mom’s diaphragm when I was a child and wore it on my head. I thought, ‘I didn’t know my mom’s Jewish!’ Only now I know she was a Catholic using birth control. I never told anyone this.

Oh another one of his favorites: “I like to watch Dr. Phil drunk.”

Chez Zee 2 years ago

I’ve been meaning to try out this bistro/dessert bar for almost a year now but have never gotten around to it.

Friday, one of our patients gave me and my supervisor two BIG desserts (serving size:4) the chocolate decadence cake (four Layers of dense chocolate cake brushed with seedless raspberry preserves, filled with mocha mousse, then covered with a chocolate ganache) and creme brulee from Chez Zee’s for us. My supervisor took one look at both of them and declined on account of calories and health…

Food has always been my weakness. I had both desserts… in one day.

Delicious!

Maybe this year I can work on my willpower when it comes to food.
