I’ve been taking very good care of myself since the surgery on my foot. I’ve been resting a lot, icing the foot, taking the medication my doctor prescribed, and keeping my appointments. I’ve learned how to give myself an injection, which I never thought I’d be able to do, but really, it’s not so bad.
Surgery is painful, but the pain can be managed and my doctor is very good at convincing patients to aggressively manage the pain from the beginning so it never gets really bad.

Tomorrow I go in for a physical before my foot surgery. I’m having my deformed foot fixed on Wednesday morning. I’m apprehensive, but look forward to being able to walk without pain, once the healing is done.
I need reassuring. Anyone else had foot surgery? How bad did it hurt?
p.s. Disclaimer: that is not my actual foot.

My usual TV companion will not be around this evening, so I am going to put my feet up and watch Jane Austen, something I can’t watch when he is here.

I have been letting this slip somewhat.
I’m still getting really healthy food, in the right amounts.
I’ve fallen out of the habit of drinking 8 oz. of water in the morning, to start my day, and am trying to reinstate it.
I’m doing pretty well with weight training lately, on an every-other-day basis.
I’m not doing so well with stretching, which is in danger of slipping out of my routine altogether.
Daily exercise is a spotty affair; some days I do quite well, riding my bike to do errands or going for an evening run along the beach.
My massage therapist is on vacation, and besides, I’ve only got one more massage on my pre-paid card, and cannot buy more at this time.

From the wonderful Andrea, she of the fabulous hands and soothing voice. Andrea is a wonderwoman of massage. Lucky me.

Under another of my goals, “Get out of debt,” I wrote a post titled, “This is becoming an obsession.” In it, I said I was spending every spare dollar on paying off my debt.
So this is a confession. Not quite everything goes to the creditors.
I am taking good care of myself. Because I work so many hours a week (to pay off my debts), I treat myself to:
- bimonthly cleaning service. What takes me 8-10 hours/month to do, they do in 4 person-hours. It costs me $80/month to save myself time that I can spend doing several hundred dollars worth of billable work. It’s a no-brainer, folks!
- bimonthly massage. Yeah, and I try and get enough exercise, too. I spend many many hours at the keyboard and it’s hard to get enough exercise. I’ve learned over the years that a maintenance dose of massage prevents me from losing worktime due to back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain…
- excellent, mostly organic food, supplements and superfoods. Only slightly more $$$ than if I bought cut-rate food, but way less than if I ate regularly.
- de-stressing vacations from time to time, in places that nourish my soul. They are not expensive vacations, but they are still luxuries.
I post on the debt thread quite a lot, more than any other of my goals. I’ve decided to start posting over here as an antidote.
