Urgh…i’ve fallen off the wagon! I haven’t meditated in two weeks…and why? Because i can’t find a single moment when i’m alone and its quiet (note: i live in a dorm). I have yet to be as comfortable and relaxed in my dormroom as say…my room at home. But i could at least meditate on sundays at the Buddhist temple nearby, so i have no excuse to meditate at least one day a week. But IT SHOULD BE 7 days a week, like i had been doin at home.

overcoming drowsiness  — 3 years ago

Lately, i’ve noticed that when i meditate around 5pm, after 10-15minutes, i start seeing myself becoming very drowsy and sleepy. My head lowers and i start leaning forward…then i catch myself, and return to my original meditating position and go back to focusing on my breath. Then it happens again..and again..and again. I can’t seemt overcome it. Its not like i’m overwhelmingly tired. I get a decent amount of sleep, and don’t eat before meditating. Any tips on overcomming drowsiness and sleepiness in meditation?

I’m really trying to work on my concentration while meditating. I’m not going to start focusing on anything other than my breathing until i am able to concentrate easily. Then i can move on to witnessing/being mindful of anything that goes on in my mind.

Hard part is finding time when it is quiete in my house…and this only happens when everyone (or atleast my mom) is gone. So the best times for me is when i wake up and as soon as i come home. I need to get myself to take advantage of these opportunities instead of being frustrated when i want to meditate but its impossible because of all the noise.

So, im taking the logical buddhism approach to meditation…and going with shamatha meditation, and then vipassana meditation.
