I've really enjoyed doing this the past couple of years. 22 months ago

If you’re going to indulge in a lot of movies, you may as well explore how you feel about them.

I just copied all my entries to a Word document so I can keep them.

#110 - Enchanted (2007) 22 months ago

Great first half, and there was a lot to like about it all the way through. Amy Adams is charming.

But it lost momentum for me in the second half… There are too many endings and the logic sort of falls apart at the end. I can’t help but think they could have created a film I’d like to see over and over again if they’d just calmed down a little at the end.

National Treasure (2004) 22 months ago

We rented this the other day in case we decide to see the new one while it’s in the theater. I’m not a big fan of action/adventure movies or Nicholas Cage so I kept my expectations pretty low. I do have a slight obsession with conspiracy theories, masons, etc. so I enjoyed that element quite a bit. No masterpiece by any means, but it kept me entertained.

3/5

The Brood 22 months ago

Creepy and sometimes graphic thriller (1979) about motherhood. A man (Art Hindle) has his wife (Samantha Eggar) sent to an experimental therapy complex run by Oliver Reed. Soon there are a series of murders being committed by bizarre-looking dwarfs. It soon becomes apparent that their targets are people that the wife has serious grievances against. They also begin terrorizing her six year old daughter. So what’s behind it all? Seeing as this is a David Cronenberg movie the answers are very sick and twisted… but compelling. Better then you’d think it’d be, anyhow. * * (2 outta 5 stars)

Another gruesome and twisted David Cronenberg thriller (1977). Not nearly as compelling as some of his other movies even though it seems to have all the elements of a great horror classic, including random people turning into foaming-at-the-mouth killers and ex-porn star Marilyn Chambers with a vagina in her armpit that shoots out a blood-sucking penis-thing (yeah, I said it) that transmits the disease. The amateurish acting is what hurts the movie mostly… that and a kind of ho-hum ending. * * (2 outta 5 stars)

Sicko 22 months ago

“Sicko” makes a lot of great comments on the current dismal state of the American health care system. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of Moore’s detractors make a reasonable case FOR the current system. Beyond screaming about “socialism” there doesn’t seem to be much they can say in defense of current policies. Does anyone who is not making a profit from the present system honestly think it doesn’t need a major overhaul? Sadly, there is too much money to be made by keeping things as they are than there is in implementing a system that actually works (as most other countries appear to have… even Cuba!!) Michael Moore’s heart is definitely in the right place. You have to give him credit for that. * * * (3 outta 5 stars)

“Keeping people hopeless and pessimistic – see I think there are two ways in which people are controlled – first of all frighten people and secondly demoralize them.”

Thought this might be a great place to put this information. Thought someone might be interested in these sites. They help you find the Presidential candidate that represents your beliefs best. I know who I would vote for, now, if I were voting tomorrow. Do you?
