I love magnolia trees, but I also love how the name sounds… magnolia seems to me another word for ‘lovely’
plus I love that Grateful Dead song, Sugar Magnolia
feckless \FEK-lis\, adjective:
1. Ineffective; having no real worth or purpose.
2. Worthless; irresponsible; generally incompetent and ineffectual.
(according to dictionary.com )
this word appears in the short story by Zadie Smith entitled Hanwell Snr in the book The Book of Other People
47. peripatetic – in my mind the meaning of this word is a bit different than the actual meaning (in actuality it means the following, according to merriam webster online):
1: a follower of Aristotle or adherent of Aristotelianism
2: pedestrian , itinerant
3(plural): movement or journeys hither and thither
In my mind it means a combination of the above and eclectic – like a peripatetic person is one who eclectically wanders from one intresting topic, idea to another… (ahem, kind of like, well… me)
i love love love love love love love love this word.
what’s funny is, for the longest time (through high school and most of college) i would encounter this word in books, but never quite know what it meant, and yet while i was mildly curious, i never bothered to look it up.
and then, one day, I did. and then i was like, oh holy cow, i like this word! a lot! so i adopted it. and gave it a room in my brain.
It is now a teenager and feels free to run amok in my conversations, popping up as it pleases. and i indulge it.
like to say it… kind of like how kids like to say mississippi (and then spell it)
I just love this word to describe how I feel when I am very very very, well, zonked.
I realize that to some it has connotations of drunk, but for me it just means super super deliriously tired.
i heard John Lithgow use it on TV today and I loved the way he seemed to savor the very word savor as he said it.
and then, there’s the fact that there are so many things to savor! food, kisses, books!!!!!!!
