PurpleHeather is ecstatically happy that she has passed her ST2 exam !!!
I went to the Ice Hotel in Lapland (north of the arctic circle) in March and in the small village we stayed in the supermarket had a whole section of allergy friendly foods.
The supermarket wasn’t big but there was a whole shelf in the chill cabinet of rice, oat and soya milks and desserts. There was a choice of rice cakes and gluten- and lactose-free crispbreads and I think bread too.
I was very surprised but really pleased.

I’ve started to put information on traveling gluten-free in Europe online here
My idea is that there should be contact persons for as many places as possible, to keep the site up-to-date. In the ideal case it would be locals on a gluten-free diet who see changes concerning restaurants, shops (location, offer) and maybe also hotels anyway, and who’ll notify me if any of the info changes or if something can be added. If they agree, their names and maybe some (spam-protected) contact option will be mentioned on their city/country page.
Any volunteers around here?

PurpleHeather is ecstatically happy that she has passed her ST2 exam !!!
And I nearly had a problem.
I am gluten intolerant not coeliac.
I found some lovely looking rice cakes and some chocolate covered ones too in a supermarket. Then next to these I found other rice cakes that looked like they had the word rice on them and realised that (after looking more carefully and doing my pattern-recognition language stuff from other labels etc) that the ones I saw first where puffed wheat cakes! eek

I’m wheat-free, not coeliac, but my daughter is coeliac. I’m happy to contribute, as we look for coeliac friendly places wherever we go.
Interestingly enough we’re just back from a short stay on the south coast of England, in Seaford, near Brighton, where we stayed at a great little guest house with good food and knowledgeable friendly staff: The Silverdale

I want to publish a travel guide for Celiacs and other people with food sensitivities. To gather information about all the places and to keep it up-to-date, I need the help of many people from many different places. I’m starting with a Europe guide, since I’ve been traveling there a lot myself, and I’m concentrating on gluten, since it has the worst effects on affected people. You can find some info on the web by now, but mainly about hotels and restaurants in the most touristy regions. I’m more aiming at individual travelers, backpackers and the like. Though probably there aren’t that many with severe food issues… yet!
So if you live in a European country, especially somewhere where it’s not easy for foreigners to get gluten-free food, and if you want to contribute to my project, please contact me!
Anyone else is of course welcome, too. Maybe I’ll manage to put up a website or we’ll find an existing place to exchange travel experiences and tips about places to stay, eat and buy our special foods.
