I am now editing my 87k first draft. I estimate I’ll be finished with this about the beginning of october, so in about five months. Then I’ll decide on my next move with the second draft.
I’m planning my next novel, which is a part of a series. I’m currently planning the series, and estimate to be finished with a rough overview sometime about the middle of June. I’ll be researching background from June to september, then in september I’ll start planning the first one. Around november I expect to be writing it. 1 week ago

Completed a first draft of a novel – my second novel, in no way linked to the first one I did. This one sits at just below 87k, and I feel happier with it than my last. I think I improved, but to say it still needs work is a major understatement.
Next on my list of things toward this goal is:
- Improve my prose through writing short stories and getting feedback to improve them.
- Use this first draft to go through the editing class I’m about to join (improving the draft and my skills at the same time).
- Continue outlining the next novel I want to write. 4 weeks ago

So I just started writing an essay for my Composition class in college, and I had a few people read it. They all thought it was great, and my best friend convinced me to become a writer. So now I’m starting to write a book, and lucky for me my best friend loves to read. She has agreed to give me some feedback before I send it to an editor. I’m very excited about this. 3 months ago

I decided an e-book is the best option for me once I got over the idea that an e-book is also a “REAL” book, too.
I’m writing a couple of pages a week. I want to be done by this time next year. I think that finishing in a year is a comfortable do-able goal for me.
I’m writing a book of writing exercises for Jewish women based on traditional Jewish sources: Chumash, Siddur, Tehillim and Pirkei Avot. 14 months ago

Yesterday I was running the usual thoughts in my head of, “Oh, some day I should collect all my loose stories and make a book… should really look at the Kindle publishing….”
And then I thought, “I’m done with all that.”
And said, “I’m going to publish a book.”
Thought about it five seconds, feeling proud of myself. Then realised I’d probably find more excuses and procrastinations until it was absolutely perfect.
Then I said, aloud, “Today.”
And basically dropped everything else I could (should?) have been doing, and collected and organised and formatted a collection of stories. Made a cover jpeg in Picasa. Then set up the name/date/contributors/info on Kindle desktop publishing. Then entered it, and let it process 12 hours.
And now it’s out there. I’m a real published author. Awesome. Anyone who’s been putting this off for years, too – just do it. You can always edit out mistakes later. (My proofreader mum and a friend found typos – so what? Next edition I’ll edit the typos out.)
Just do it!

woke up the other morning at 3am and spent the next hour or so writing the first chapters in my head, complete with dedication. today, instead of actually writing those first chapters, i avoided thinking about the whole subject till shortly before bedtime, then looked up Kindle publishing rules and started designing the cover. maybe tomorrow i’ll actually write the thing.
i have enough stories in my head and history in the back of my mind to write a full book in a day, i think. that’s probably not the best idea, though it would be a relief to get all the journeys, memories, and bright moments out of my head and into the world. maybe there’s a bit of a “if it’s out there, i can die happy,” mentality, though i don’t plan on dying any time soon. i don’t know what all is going on, only that i feel like i have to get it written. something written. maybe also because i’m in something of a pre-midlife crisis in (another) new country with new people, new memories and decisions crowding in, and permanence dropping by. maybe i’m afraid that if i don’t write down all the stories from the unpermanent days i’ll lose them.
maybe if i don’t bring back all the pictures of being free, of being a kid constantly on airplanes…i’ll stop being that kid. and i’ll grow up. 15 months ago
