Ru ~ dig deeperUnsettled

It’s been a few weeks since we moved in, and though the main chorus of downsizing is going to echo on for a long time to come, there are some more immediate things that can make our new place seem more like home. There are still a lot of boxes to be unpacked and things to be dispersed. One big one has been the books. Boxes and boxes of books have been stacked up around the living room, closets, and hallway, lending to the freshly moved chaos feel.

Yesterday we managed to place 2 of the 3 bookcases (still unsure about where #3 will go) and I unpacked well over a dozen boxes, which made a huge difference. I also unpacked 3 big boxes of vinyl and half of the cds.

I’ll make a list, but other goalposts are putting up artwork, lights and mirrors, setting up a mini computer area, unpacking the rest of the clothes, checking out the local library/shops, setting up some shelves, figuring out some kind of cabinet storage for all the bathroom stuff, shuffling some of the furniture around, placing the rug, dropping off some more donations, etcetera.

We’ve made a decent dent so far, we’ll just have to keep it up. 3 years ago

bookishone thing i need to do (and don't really feel like doing)

is to buy a bookcase (or two)

right now i have books in boxes. Not accessible, and untidy looking.

but i dread the cost and hassle of buying and then figuring out how to ship and then put together a bookcase… 5 years ago

bookishSince the time i started to live in dorm rooms in college

i have resisted settling in when i move; this is probably because i “don’t want to get too comfortable” since each place feels temporary. Even after college, I haven’t lived in one place for more than two years. That’s years and years of unsettled living.

but if i think about it, there’s something to be said for settling, making myself comfortable. So what if I end up moving out after a year, or even six months. So much better to enjoy the time spent living in a place, than constantly feeling temporary, no?

This will take some time, and is a big goal, but I’ll set up some small goals (like paint my room, get furniture, and more) to support it. 6 years ago
