Worth doing!
I learned very little in library school that actually prepared me for the “real world.” However, you need it to get a professional position, so there is no way around it if you want to be a librarian! My advice.. just get it over with as quckly as possible…

...you need to know going into it that the much-discussed “librarian shortage” is a lie.

Well, there is no guarantee. Nothing in life is guaranteed. BUT, the primary thing is service. We love to help people. Second, we love to keep the human record safe, clean, clear, and accessible. Third, we promote literacy- a citizen who can read, and write, and think, is a better citizen. Fourth, we believe in FREEDOM of thought, of reading, of writing, of access to information- we believe that it’s nobody’s business what you read or write, and that you should be able to read, and write, and think, whatever your little heart desires, with no monitoring of what you are doing. (rambling starts here) it’s about intellectual freedom and helping people meet their information needs and bibliographic instruction and collection development and finding out about our communities/contingencies.
best of all – it’s such a great place to find others who are actually interested in the dewey decimal system or library of congress subject headings or (insert library/information center related topic here)
