I need to write a few boring and practical web applications first. :\

Learning and using Rails now 3 years ago

Just un update to say I’ve switched lanes to Rails (ha) and it’s way cool. You can do stuff so fast and so fun that it makes you, as they preach, so happy.

Learning Python + Django 3 years ago

Efficiency and speed are crucial issues here. Paul Graham wrote in an essay about Lisp being Viaweb’s “secret weapon” against their competitors because it allowed them to develop new features quickly.

I recognize I’m slow with PHP. Compared to locals, I’m really fast. I’ve got several libraries and code-generating scripts to help me being faster, but watching the Snakes and Rubies video I realized I’m slow. As in Abrash’s “fast slow,” a premature optimization.

So now I’m learning Python and then I’ll learn Django. These will be my secret weapons to develop my future applications.

Mix CD Crossing 4 years ago

MusicCrossing in an interesting concept, but it does not allow your to discover things that would not be available in your area. I’d love to start a mixCD version of musiccrossing that is closer to Postcrossing that Bookcrossing. I’d love to send someone in Easter Island a CD with local music from San Francisco and receive another one with local music from Estonia (which is where my last postcrossing card came from) If anyone has to technical knowledge to do this and wants to help me out, send me an email

we have the idea 4 years ago

we just have to make it go.

I thought of it while we were living in India.. Actually we were on vacation in Barcelona while living in India. The war in Iraq started the day we got to Spain and the whole SARS thing broke out that day too. I was glued to the TV watching the war on CNN International and they were interviewing all these gross Americans about the war and it got me started thinking about a great idea for a website . . .
